I love my 47-inch LCD TV, but the sound quality never seems to match the picture. I realize it’s hard to get fidelity from a few weak speakers, however, the alternative to getting a surround sound system is more than I wanted or needed, not to mention having to run wires all over the place. TV room. I was looking at soundbars for a while and chose the LG 300W Soundbar System in the hopes that it would be the solution to my problems.

I’m not an audio enthusiast by any means, so any device that can deliver clearer sound while being easy to set up and set up is very appealing. The specs and features of the LG soundbar seem to be more than enough to satisfy my needs.

This is what you get in the package. It even comes with batteries for the remote and an optical cable.
Setup is easy. I put the bar in front of the TV, plugged in the power and subwoofer to the power source in the house, and turned it on. Included in the package is a wall bracket and a template for mounting the sound bar on the wall if desired. The wireless connection between the bar and the subwoofer is automatic. There are no controls on the subwoofer and it can be placed anywhere in the room as long as it is within range of the soundbar’s signal. The length of the soundbar is set for a 42-inch flat screen, so it seems a bit short at 47 inches. We think it looks great and matches the TV.
Then I connected an optical cable from the TV, another optical cable I bought from a media player I had, and connected my IS9181 internet radio to the mobile input jack.
All inputs can be selected from the remote control or the touch buttons on the sound bar. When I open the LG soundbar, the first thing my wife says is “not another remote!” Luckily, the LG remote controlled my TV, so we were able to get rid of that remote. Another very cool feature is that the soundbar will sense if there is data in the optical input and will turn itself on and off when the TV is turned on and off. This function can be activated or deactivated via the LG remote control.

There is one last input on the side of the sound bar. The USB port makes it possible to connect a USB drive with music in .wma or .mp3 format. We loaded our music with Christmas music and segmented it into vocal or instrumental folders. Folders can be selected using the remote control. MP3 files will display the track information on the soundbar screen. I also plugged in a portable hard drive and was able to access and play tunes from the drive.
When listening to an audio source, the LG soundbar has several built-in equalizer effects that can be selected. We found the clear sound setting to be particularly helpful, especially when playing movies. Many times we watch movies and ask each other what he/she says. We’ve shortened its lifespan, but with LG’s sound bar, we can now understand dialogue in movies and TV shows. Other sound effects can be used to enhance your sound source, and you can skip the equalization altogether if you want. There’s also a 3D effect mode that seems to fill the room with sound.
The LG Soundbar has Bluetooth connectivity and will stream music from your Bluetooth device. I use it to play music and podcasts from my iPod Touch. This is as simple as selecting a Bluetooth input with your remote and turning on Bluetooth on your iPod, then selecting LG to pair with. Now that I have a soundbar, I can get rid of that collection of iPod speakers that I have lying around the house.
This is a device I wish I had a long time ago. It’s amazing how different the sound is compared to the built-in speakers. Now we can understand the lines without having to reenact a scene from the movie. Yes, there are cheaper soundbars, but you get what you pay for. Bluetooth connectivity, multiple inputs, a wireless subwoofer and improved sound quality over flat panel speakers are well worth it. Also, I now have multiple audio sources playing through the soundbar in the room I spend most of my time in. The LG Soundbar is a competing product that would be a smart purchase.
