First, KEF is the first speaker to use the innovative Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). The MAT pulls the line sound from behind the dome tweeter so it doesn’t distort the internal output of the unit. MAT is said to “remove 99% of the frequency distortion behind the driver for a clean, natural sound.”
Other improvements include an uncorrected bass port, a low-displacement curved coil, and a sharper and sharper crossover. This is 150W on top of the first 30W Class A/B tweeter and 200W Class D going to the mid/bass section, which should allow for more power.
With an advanced MAT that works to absorb 99% of unwanted sound from behind the tweeter, the LS50 Wireless II is powered by KEF’s Music Integrity engine. The company describes this as “the latest collection of digital signal generators using the latest Uni-Q and MAT drivers”. We’re told that this allows the driver to “provide time-honored performance, for better picture quality and strong, unfiltered sound”.

There’s also AirPlay 2 support in the LS50 Wireless II with optional features like Google Chromecast and Bluetooth. If you don’t mind some cables, you can also connect your TV, game console, etc. using HDMI for speakers, analog, optical and coaxial.
Also announced is a new exclusive KEF Connect app. From the side, the new app walks you through the process as well as monitoring the system on a daily basis. KEF Connect lets you customize the sound to your personal taste. The app is also your gateway to Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz, Deezer, internet radio and podcasts. The LS50 Wireless II is also certified Roon Ready. Using AirPlay 2, Chromecast or Roon, you can stream to multiple speakers, meaning you can play music in your home. Finally, the LS50 Wireless II has two subwoofer outputs, one for each speaker, which should be useful if connected to your TV or listening to your favorite music streaming services.
