These are great portable speakers, but after a month of research I’ve decided that the UE Megaboom 3 is better with its superior design, wireless charging and better sound at high volumes. However, the JBL Charge 4 sounds great indoors at low volumes and is affordable. Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 Review
The sound quality is almost the same here, but the Megaboom 3 may be of more use to you than where you intend to use it.
Megaboom 3 has omnidirectional sound. This makes it the same from all sides, which is good for outdoor use and parties. While I think the Charge 4 sounds better at low volumes, the Megaboom 3’s omnidirectional sound, heavy bass, and clear and crisp audio make it great overall. Speaking of bass, the bass is stronger than the Charge 4, which is usually a good thing. However, sometimes it is difficult.
You can customize the settings, but the default settings sound best in my opinion. This speaker is perfect for parties, listening outdoors or if you like the sound of your music. Compared to the original Megaboom, the bass is better, but the mids and highs are similar. However, the design is a definite improvement. As a side note, there is no Megaboom 2. This was skipped to streamline the lineup name.
The JBL Charge 4 offers incredible sound quality, but for different purposes. It has only one driver and one way sound. The sound is best when it can be rotated on the wall. Although not suitable for outdoor use, it sounds good outdoors. The sound is smooth and stable up to a volume of 60%. More than 70% and it’s getting worse. While not as powerful as the Megaboom 3, the bass is consistent while the Megaboom 3 can be overwhelming at times.

A lot of people say the Megaboom 3 is loud but I don’t see any difference. Although you can’t change the equalizer, I like how the sound is organized. If you intend to use the speaker in the room, it will sound louder than the Megaboom 3. Compared to the Charge 3, the new model has more bass and power, and improved treble, but the overall quality is around one.
The design for both is good, but the UE Megaboom 3 is superior and you’ll see exactly why.
