Amazon’s Echo Dot is a compact smart speaker that offers all the same features as its bigger siblings. It’s great if you want to hear the latest news, shop for products, or play games and quizzes, but it lacks the speaker enhancements offered by the full Echo and the more expensive Echo Studio.
Fear not, though, as you can connect your dot to an external speaker or connect to one via Bluetooth to turn up the volume. (You can set up an external speaker with an Alexa-based device, but the thing is, it’s really necessary.) Let’s go through the steps for both options.

If you want to connect the speaker to your Echo Dot, you’ll need a 3.5mm audio cable (Opens in a new window) on both ends. Connect one end of the audio cable to your speaker’s Aux In jack and the other end to the Dot’s Aux Out jack, right next to the power cable connection. Expand the speaker and it will now play sound from your Echo Dot the next time you ask Alexa to play music.
Do you want to connect the cables? You can stream audio from your hotspot to Bluetooth speakers instead. Amazon certifies compatible speakers with the Works With Alexa logo (Opens in a new window), so you know which devices to buy. When you have a Bluetooth speaker, make sure it is in pairing mode
Launch the Alexa app and open Devices > Echo & Alexa. Tap the name of the Alexa device you want to connect to your speaker. In the Bluetooth connection section, select Turn on device. The Alexa app will search for nearby Bluetooth devices to pair with your Echo Dot. Tap your speaker name when it appears.
How To Connect Your Android Phone Or An Iphone To An Amazon Echo Smart Speaker
After a successful pairing, the speaker will appear in the Alexa app as a Bluetooth connection to that Echo device. Alexa also announced the winning couples. Now you can ask Alexa to play music and perform other tasks, and the sound will play through your Bluetooth speaker.
If you want to unpair a speaker, tap the speaker’s name in the Alexa app and tap Unpair. You can also say “Alexa, sort”. Alexa tells you that your Echo Dot is now disconnected from the speaker. Say “Alexa, connect” to reconnect. Alexa will connect your Echo Dot to the latest Bluetooth-enabled device.
You can permanently remove access to your speaker by entering the speaker’s name in the Alexa app and selecting Forgot device. Then you have to go through the pairing process again to reconnect.
