Ue Boom Hyperboom

Ue Boom Hyperboom – If you love UE but feel its previous offerings aren’t good enough for your parties, Hyperboom is for you. Sure it’s expensive, but it fills a niche that UE can’t fill.

Whether you’re heading to the beach or the park, there are many popular speakers you can access, and one of the most successful companies in this area is Ultimate Headphones (UE). It’s the company behind the UE BOOM, Roll and WONDERBOOM series, all of which are highly sought after. UE HyperBoom makes the speaker sound louder or louder than before. It’s a great UE speaker stretched to its limits, but does it do well?

Ultimate Ears Hyperboom Bluetooth Speaker Review

The first thing you need to know is that this thing is big. If you’ve used a UE BOOM speaker before and think you know what it’s like to use a UE speaker, throw that knowledge out the window. For the first time, UE has gone square instead of cylindrical for its speaker, and it works. You still get the big + and – signs that the company is known for, but this time the icons are touch-able. You can’t carry the Hyperboom in your backpack, but it’s very light for its size. Instead, this is the speaker you want for a backyard or beach party.

The speaker is made of hard plastic that is IPX4 resistant to drops and dust. I can see this speaker living by the pool in the summer: rain or shine. Try not to submerge the speakers, as doing so can damage the internal components. There is a built-in rubber strap on the side of the stand, which I really like because it makes it easy to carry the speaker from one place to another. Plus, you can place it against the speaker for convenience when you’re not using it. At the bottom of the neck you’ll find a waterproof cover for all the ports, which I’ll get one of here because it changed how I look at this speaker.

In classic UE fashion, the HyperBoom features large touch-sensitive + and – voltage controls.

UE includes optical input, which is a smart move. While this speaker will find some use at summer parties at the beach or park, the optical input will also benefit home speakers. Most of the time I just sit and relax in my apartment, although I occasionally bring a speaker to a party. The thought of being able to use this big, loud and relatively durable speaker in my everyday life and then pick it up and bring it with me to my next family barbecue is very exciting. If you’re a home theater person, this obviously won’t cut it for you. However, I can see it being useful for people who want to kill two birds with one stone with a quick sound update on their TV.

Ultimate Ears Hyperboom Review: Distinctive Speaker

Another cool feature that the UE Hyperboom has is the “One-Touch Music Control” that automatically plays your favorite playlist with a long press of the Play/Pause button. This feature won’t change your life, but it’s very convenient and feels intuitive.

Despite the optical input, this speaker is clearly designed for your next party. Therefore, that UE generated a single party fault solution. Did you know that when someone connects to Bluetooth and plays music, someone else has to connect their phone? You’ll have to give the aux or reconnect another phone to the speaker, neither of which will have a break in music. To combat this, UE has been added

Bluetooth inputs. One person can actively play the DJ while the second person can hook up to the speaker and arrange their song without disrupting the flow of the party.

In addition to two Bluetooth inputs, you also get an optical input, a USB-A output for charging your devices, and a 3.5mm input. All four speakers have a dedicated button so it’s easy to switch between all inputs. One thing to note is that the 3.5mm and optical outputs are hidden under a rubber band on the back of the speaker, so remember to break the IPX4 seal if you’re going to use them. Use them and avoid water if possible.

The wireless range is around 48 meters and it connects well. I have no problem listening to music in my apartment even though there are some walls. There’s no lag when streaming video over Bluetooth, which is surprising since there’s no high-end codec to speak of here.

You can fully control every aspect of the speaker from the BOOM app. Plus, you get some extra features like EQ and the ability to connect multiple UE speakers with the PartyUp feature.

UE claims the HyperBoom will give you 24 hours of continuous playback at 50% volume, and only around three hours of full playback at 100% volume. In our testing, we recorded 22 hours, 14 minutes of continuous play. If you’ve ever owned a UE speaker, you’ll be familiar with the battery life testing process on the Hyperboom. To check the battery life, all you have to do is press the + and – icons at the same time.

The bass (pink) has a little detail, making it appear louder than some of the mids and highs (green and blue).

When I spoke with UE reps about the speaker, they mentioned that its sound profile was originally supposed to be bass-heavy, but as prototypes started arriving, engineers found the bass to be too strong. They relaxed it. When testing the frequency response of this speaker, I placed it in the middle of a large room. Normally, if you’re going to take this speaker and place it in the corner, the bass will increase as it bounces off the walls, but your experience should be somewhat similar to what I experienced, with what UE calls Adaptive EQ. A small microphone in the speaker listens and adjusts the speaker’s EQ in real-time.

As you can see from the frequency response table, the bass notes get some improvement, but the sub-bass notes are reduced (a common problem with portable speakers). This is the bassline in the song ???? EDEN makes the song easy to listen to even outdoors.

The speakers performed well enough and the two 25mm tweeters did a good job of handling noise. Hi-hats and cymbals don’t come through loud and clear. As you can hear on You Only Live Once by the Strokes, the swing throughout the chorus sounds a bit distant and dull, but they’re never harsh, which is good. You might not get the same level of clarity you’re used to from something like a sound bar, but there’s nothing wrong with all Bluetooth speakers designed for outdoor use, even at high volumes. Of course, if you want to further refine the sound of your music, you can always go back to the app and tweak the EQ for yourself.

Ue Boom Hyperboom

The UE Hyperboom is a great speaker that fills a perfect niche, but it costs $399 USD. Whether or not you should buy it really depends on whether or not you have a few hundred dollars to spare. I can’t see many people dropping the cash to pick this up (especially when you get smaller speakers at that price), but it’s a great speaker.

Good It solves some of the most annoying party problems, and its rugged IPX4 construction means you don’t have to kid yourself. It sounds really cool and the adaptive EQ is a smart solution for when someone doesn’t know where they’re going to place the speakers. Plus, with the addition of an optical input, you can use this speaker every day, even when you’re not shooting.

If you’ve ever wanted a super portable speaker to take out on the boat or at the beach, you’ve got the WONDERBOOM 2. If you’re into frolicking or just want a great speaker for your next tropical trip, the UE BOOM 3 has you covered. Even better
