As you’d expect from a sub-bass label, the Sony SRS-XB41 excels in bass. However, there is such a thing as too much bass. The extra low end you get from this speaker means the mids and highs are often overpowered.
If you like clarity in your music, the Sony Bluetooth speaker may not deliver the sound quality you’re looking for. Sound performance seems a little fuzzy, but it’s better than cheaper speakers we’ve tried.
On the plus side, everything is easy to use. If you’re looking for great performance with easy-to-use apps and easy-to-use buttons, the SRS-XB41 has you covered. It’s a shame that the bass on this model drowns out most of the others.

All in all, the Sony SRS-XB41 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a great looking device. We love the phone’s charging capabilities and the speakerphone is great.
Apps are great for experimenting with sound and light. Plus, the light show looks great right out of the box.
Unfortunately, Sony seems to be so distracted by extra features that it forgets to provide the quality its customers are looking for in a healthy way. The XB41 is a reasonably good performer for outdoor, non-critical listening sessions. Comes with a reasonable price tag
The packaging of the XB41 is almost identical to the XB31 and XB21, except that the increased dimensions of the XB41 require larger dimensions than its smaller siblings. Sony offers some of the key features of the speaker, namely an IP67 waterproof rating, 24 hours of battery life, and connectivity features that allow you to pair the 2 together wirelessly. Sony certainly hasn’t tried to add much with the XB41, other than the micro-USB cable used for charging. Surely at the $250 asking price they could have at least added some sort of storage/carrying bag. Because this particular category of speaker is designed for portable use, it has a simple cloth-type carrying case to protect it from minors, unlike more “lifestyle” type speakers that are usually reserved for a desk or bookshelf. The same cannot be said about the design of the XB41 like the XB21 and XB31, as all 3 speakers share the same design. The biggest difference really comes down to size, but there are a few other cosmetic changes here and there.
We still get a woven nylon texture that, at least from a distance, almost looks like anodized mesh metal. By using a threaded material rather than real metal, it still gives the XB41 a somewhat solid look without the metal heaviness. But only the test of time can tell how difficult this design will be. As is common with fabric, repeated rubbing can cause individual fibers to break, which not only gives a worn appearance, but also compromises the structural integrity of the woven material.
Looking at the top of the XB41, we can see some clear similarities in the button panel design. However, while the XB31 and XB21 had separate NFC chip and button panels, for the XB41, Sony placed the two squarely in the middle. A small NFC chip makes it easy to pair the XB41 with other NFC-compatible smartphones and music players. But unlike the XB21 and XB31, we’re getting a custom device now
