Sonos Play Base – Sonos is a well-known audio company, which has been the market leader in public speakers for many years. But Sonos is a company that doesn’t release new products every time. Sonos released two products in 2017, after going many years without anything new. It introduced the Sonos PLAYBASE in the spring and then the Sonos One in the fall. The Sonos PLAYBASE is a sound system for your TV, but it’s actually a base that your TV can sit on. Sonos already has the PLAYBAR, but now the company has an option for those looking to upgrade the sound in their entertainment setup, and that’s the PLAYBASE. Both offer the same specifications and the same price. So the question we have to answer here is whether the PLAYBASE is worth the $700 price tag.
The box is big, and it is very interesting. There are locks on the sides, you have to slide them to open the box. When you lift the top of the box, you will see the PLAYBASE standing on its side, with the cables installed inside. Sonos includes an optical cable and an Ethernet cable, to connect to a TV and your router, respectively. You will find some papers inside, with instructions on how to set it up and everything. Otherwise, that’s all that’s included in the box.
Sonos Play Base
Sonos has kept the technology nice and clean in the PLAYBASE. It has a metal base, available in white or black (or the model here is black). On the front, you will see the Sonos logo, and three buttons. It has a play/pause button in the center and then two buttons on either side for volume. There is a pairing button on the side, which you can use when you first set it up, or if you change your wire and need to set it up again. On the back of the PLAYBASE, there are three ports. A power port, optical port to connect your TV and then an Ethernet port to connect your router. Now you don’t need to use the Ethernet port, but if you are using this remote from your router, and your WiFi is not fast, you want to use the Ethernet cable.
How Sonos Made The New Playbase Sound A Lot Better Than It Should
The PLAYBASE is designed for your TV to sit on and can hold TVs up to 75lbs. It’s thinner, but it won’t slide under all TVs, so this is best for those with a smaller TV, or a stand, that doesn’t have two legs. My TV is two feet, one on each side. It’s just a short time for the PLAYBASE, but not enough time to slide under the TV. This is the difference for most. When I put a small TV on the PLAYBASE, it worked fine. So you want to keep that in mind if you are looking to choose a location.
In the dark, the PLAYBASE is well aware of the reception environment, and because it has a wide range of sounds, it produces a sound, and no matter where you sit, you can hear it. With black, it is combined with beauty, and it seems to be part of the arrangement of your living room or your bathroom.
Sonos does a great job of walking you through the setup of the PLAYBASE and its other speakers. To get started, you need to download the Sonos app from the Google Play Store. From there you need to create an account if you don’t have one. Then you can add a speaker, where the app will ask you where. Next, you will configure your PLAYBASE. This involves finding the PLAYBASE, connecting it to your WiFi and connecting it to your TV. Sonos guides you through the setup with your TV remote, so you can control the sound using your TV remote, and you don’t need another remote – it’s great because it doesn’t include a Sonos remote.
After setting up, you can control it using your phone and the app. You can not only use it for sound on your TV, but also to play music and content from your favorite music sources such as Spotify, Google Play Music and more. And because this is Sonos, you can play music at the same time on the PLAYBASE and on another speaker like the Sonos One.
Sonos Playbase Review, Design, Performance And Quality
The software is very similar to any other Sonos product. So this section may sound similar to our Sonos One software review page. But basically, with the app, you can adjust the volume and what’s playing on the PLAYBASE. Now if you are watching TV, you can adjust the volume, because the content is controlled by the TV. If you are looking to play a song on PLAYBASE, you can select it through the app. Sonos has made it possible for you to control your music, audiobooks and podcast services in one app. Sonos has support for every streaming service out there, and having everything in one app is great.
Sonos allows you to adjust the EQ on the PLAYBASE, which is unique to other Sonos speakers. Just go to Settings, then click on Room Settings and select the room in the PLAYBASE. From there you will find the settings for the PLAYBASE, including the EQ. You can adjust the bass and treble for the PLAYBASE. You can change the Loudness setting. The sound is better when the volume is lowered, and if you are in a small room, you don’t need the Loudness setting.
Multi-channel audio support is here with the PLAYBASE, and the Sonos app is easy to use. Just go to the tab “Room” in the application, which is located in the middle. From there, you can see what each speaker is doing, and you can join them. To combine them, just click the “combine” button, and you can choose which speakers you want to combine. From there you can change the volume. With this feature, the audio stays in sync too, which is great, even if the other room settings aren’t completely in sync. Because sometimes it can be a little slow with other room settings outside. The difference is probably because Sonos only plays over WiFi and not Bluetooth. So it’s not technically related to your device, where lag can come into play.
The Sonos app is packed with features and the company has done a great job of keeping it light and easy to use. Even for those who have never used a Sonos product before, the app is simple and easy to use. This is especially important, since Sonos (like any company) is always looking to bring in new customers.

The most important part of this review is the sound quality. For most people, the PLAYBASE should have good sound quality, given its price. And the good thing is that it works. The PLAYBASE also has some good bass, even if you don’t raise the bass in the EQ settings. But the mids and highs are nice and comfortable. The PLAYBASE has a really full sound here. If you watch an action movie with a lot of explosions, you can really appreciate the sound of this speaker from Sonos. It’s amazing. Now, before the PLAYBASE, I used the built-in speakers on my TV, which I think sounds good, not great, but not terrible. Now I don’t want to go back to PLAYBASE in these embedded languages. Any sound system can probably do this, but the PLAYBASE is different.
The PLAYBASE is loud. In my apartment, I could turn it down and hear it outside and down the hall, so it was loud enough to see my neighbors. This means there is no problem filling a room of any size with sound. We do not mention that there is this “Loudness” setting that we talked about in the Internet section of this review. The PLAYBASE does surround sound, and it sounds great. But if you want real surround sound, you can connect it with two Sonos Ones, PLAY:1’s, PLAY:3’s PLAY:5’s and get real surround sound in your living room. We haven’t had a chance to test this yet, but it looks amazing.
Overall, the sound quality on the Sonos PLAYBASE is worth the price. Don’t forget the other features that come with the PLAYBASE such as music streaming over WiFi, and multiple speakers. This makes it the best choice, especially if you have other speakers in your home.
