This week, Amazon Alexa chief scientist Rohit Prasad said that to make Alexa really smart, AI needs a robot body so it can move in the real world.

Speaking about Alexa integration, Anki’s EMEA GM Stuart Collingwood said: “Millions of people are already seeing the benefits that virtual assistants bring to their lives every day and at Anki we’ve started to see that by using advanced robotics and AI we can enable character development, emotions and personalities that allow us to offer richer and more engaging ways for humans to interact with this technology.
“When we added Alexa to Vector, it was the first time that Alexa was integrated into an autonomous, always-on home robot with personality. Those who have Alexa in their Vector use it more often, but it is this character that allowing people to have a deeper experience with their robot.

Chinese robotics company Ubtech has launched Lynx, the first humanoid robot with Alexa built-in. It does everything Alexa can, like set reminders and play music through the speakers in its “ears”, plus some extra features. There is monitoring mode that allows the Lynx to take and send a 30-second video to the companion app on your smartphone when it detects a sound or movement via its infrared chest sensor.
