How to set up a Sonos speaker to reset it to factory settings and erase all your data

Note that this is different from a system reboot. Unlike a simple reset, a factory reset will permanently erase all data, settings, and music from your speaker.

Using Your Turntable With Sonos

1. Turn off the Sonos speakers. Or if it’s a battery-powered Sonos Move, unplug the charging base and turn off the device.

2. Find the two buttons on the top of your device and press them down. Depending on your device, the buttons may be different: they may be Play, Play/Pause, or Mute. It is not important what they do.

3. While holding the buttons, turn your device back on or put it in the charging port. The Sonos light flashes orange and white, then turns green.

4. When the light turns green, release the buttons. The green light should still be on, which means it has been successfully reset to factory settings.

I got a new Play 1 and wanted to set it up for a sonos system, it used to be another Play 1 with standard (not activated) wifi. However we have also changed our wifi provider so need to change this and add a new speaker.

At first I was hoping to add a new second speaker using the steps to modify the existing system’s wireless network, but it doesn’t work after connecting to the network. I installed new speakers as a new system on new wifi.

Now when I try to add another speaker to the new system (used for the old network) it doesn’t work. I got to the one that says “press and hold the buttons at the same time and keep the buzzer” (pic below).

This is one of the few issues that you should consider as a serious issue if the speaker refuses to turn on due to some built-in functionality or battery issues after the factory reset and USB reboot process.
