Pairing Airpods To Android

AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max are not iOS-exclusive devices. If you’ve been eyeing those wireless earbuds, but don’t want to give up your Android device, we’ve got good news. AirPods connect to basically any Bluetooth-enabled device.

Google Adds Airpods Like Features To Bluetooth On Android

Not all the features you get with Apple devices will be included. The battery indicator for AirPods will not appear on your phone, and Siri will not be available to respond to your requests. However, you can download the Material Pods app (opens in new window) to display battery life on your phone and launch Google Assistant after double-tapping the earbuds.

On your Android device, make sure Bluetooth is turned on and go to Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth. For AirPods and AirPods Pro, open the case, hold it close to the Android device, press the white button on the back until you see a list of connected devices pop-up on the screen, then tap Pair. For AirPods Max, remove them from the case, press and hold the volume control button until a pop-up appears, then tap Pair.

Now the only thing left is to get your Android out of the blue with your AirPods firmly in your ears. When you can’t hear the people around you, you see their confused expressions. You are the bridge between Apple fanboys and Android fanatics.

I’m trying to explain topics that you may find in the news but don’t fully understand like NFT and stock memes. I love talking about technology with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee and other celebrities who bring different perspectives to it. I take great care in writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I receive from people who have used them to choose a gift that was well received. While I enjoy being able to write about the tech industry every day, it is affected by gender, racial, and socioeconomic disparities and I am trying to address this topic. AirPods work best in Apple’s ecosystem, but still work as basic Bluetooth earbuds elsewhere. Here’s how.

AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max use an H1 or H2 processor that communicates directly with other Apple products for easy pairing. These devices are registered to the user’s iCloud so that devices on the same network can easily find the AirPods and forward them to wherever the audio is playing.

The proprietary nature of this automatic pairing and switching technology leads many users to believe that they only work with Apple products. However, that is not the case.

Getting AirPods into normal pairing mode is easy. Simply hold down the back button on the charging case with the cover open and place the AirPods inside to start the pairing process. For AirPods Max, press and hold the volume control button for a few seconds.

There is only one modern game console that supports Bluetooth device audio out of the box – the Nintendo Switch. Both PlayStation and Xbox rely on proprietary audio solutions, so most gamers are out of luck without a solution.

For other consoles, there are some drastic solutions. For example, AirFly by TwelveSouth can route audio from the headphone jack to AirPods. This device can be plugged into the console controller’s headphone jack.

Another solution is the Xbox app on the iPhone. Users can connect to party chats using the app and AirPods without connecting to a console. Open the Xbox app with AirPods connected and join the party chat.

The PlayStation app also has a party chat function, but it won’t relay audio from the game to the headset. Until PlayStation or Xbox update their consoles to support Bluetooth audio, there’s no direct way to use AirPods with them.

Peeling from another computer, phone or tablet is almost the same. Android phones have a Bluetooth menu for pairing devices.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 have a very similar installation process as their Settings app doesn’t change much for this functionality.

Users are less likely to have problems connecting AirPods to Windows PCs as the device will be used in stationary mode.

If the AirPods are only used with that product, they do not need to be paired again, but once they are paired with another product, the previous product cannot be paired again without repeating the pairing process.

Apple’s proprietary ecosystem enables certain functionalities in its products. Once outside of that ecosystem, things like auto-pairing and spatial audio stop working.
