While they don’t have a lot of bass and can get quite rattling when turned up, they sound good for background music, podcasts and internet radio. They are also more compact than other non-motorized models we recommend and are fully sealed to prevent water ingress.

These speakers are designed for people who are lucky enough to have an outdoor space – whether it’s a small patio or a full backyard – and who enjoy listening to music or podcasts. I also suspect that because manufacturers know that their outdoor speakers are unlikely to pass the rigors of testing, they don’t put as much effort into their designs as indoor models.
Since you have to run a speaker cable from the amplifier to the speaker, setting up a traditional pair of passive (unamplified) outdoor speakers takes more skill and effort than simply slapping a portable Bluetooth speaker on a patio table. If you have a few unused amplifier channels, you can turn off the speakers on your existing home theater receiver. Most stereo receivers have a “speakers A/B” button that allows you to route the sound to a different set of speakers or use an inexpensive speaker switcher.
