After all, it wasn’t until 1994 that Jaap Haartsen even laid the foundation for what would later become known as Bluetooth Wireless Technology. And it wasn’t until 2001 that consumers gained access to a Bluetooth device via a connected Ericsson T39 mobile phone. the first wireless headset.

But now you can easily play music at camping events using a smartphone, tablet or computer with a variety of consumer speakers. Gone are the days of camping with D batteries, cassettes and CDs.

If you’re looking for a speaker that can survive being dropped from your car or truck, or dropped into a lake on a camping trip and still work flawlessly, the Turtlebox speaker is for you.

The rugged Turtlebox speaker is portable, waterproof and loud, perfect for windy camping environments. The speaker itself weighs 10 pounds and measures 11.5 inches wide, 6.5 inches deep, and 8.75 inches tall. It has an easy-to-hold rubber handle that feels like you’re carrying a large lunch box.

The sound is spectacular. With a loud and clear 50-watt amplifier combined with an efficient driver and speaker, it’s a treat. It also has a loudness of 120 decibels (which is a lot more than you need when camping). I found that the center of the road volume is still high out and carries well in open areas. You can keep the speaker outdoors in dusty conditions without worrying about particles getting in and damaging the speaker. And the outer shell is resistant to UV light, so the outer color should not fade in the sun.

The most impressive thing about this speaker is the battery life. It has an 85 watt-hour lithium-ion battery (9 cells) and can last more than 20 hours at half volume in moderate weather conditions. Even at the highest volume, you easily get five to six hours of playing time without charging. There is also a USB-C port for charging the phone from the battery.

If you’re worried about the speaker getting water in, you’ll feel safe knowing that this speaker has an IP67 rating, one of the highest ingress protection ratings for a consumer product. You can submerge the speaker up to one meter for 30 minutes without damage; ideal for beach camping as it is designed to keep particles such as dust and sand out.

And with 15 hours of playback time at half volume (10 hours at full volume), you don’t have to stop the party to worry about constantly charging the camp speaker. The speaker’s 36.3-watt lithium-ion battery takes approx. 2.5 hours to fully charge.

Rubber grips on the bottom of the speaker help keep the speaker on the floor, and you can easily pair two of the speakers to create surround sound.

Find out more about how this works. Summer seems to be approaching up north, but after the last few hot days and several barbecues, I wanted to find the best portable outdoor speaker.

I’ve reviewed quite a few portable Bluetooth speakers over the years, but it’s been at least four years since I reviewed a decent speaker, and I wanted to upgrade to something better.

All speakers have a good IP rating, at least to catch the rain. Some you can put in a pool; they can even float, but I still wouldn’t recommend it. They also all have good wear resistance and can withstand a few small drops.

I should have the new Anker Soundcore Motion Boom Plus for review soon. I’ll be honest, I love Anker, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad product from them and they always give great value for money.

This ticks a lot of boxes if you want something bigger and more powerful. With dual 30W woofers and dual 10W tweeters, this should be loud enough for most, if not the loudest on this list. If for some reason you want to make this even louder, it can be paired with other PartyCast 2.0 compatible speakers so you can run two of them together.

Durability is excellent, with an IP67 rating. You won’t want to swim with it, but it can withstand the heaviest rain. Powering these speakers is a 13,400mAh battery that can run for 20 hours and charges via USB-C and can also charge your devices.

If you want something smaller and cheaper, Anker also has the older Soundcore Motion Boom for a reasonable £70. This floats in water if you drop it in the pool. Of course, it’s not as powerful as a total of 30W, but it’s the best option on this list if you want something affordable.

The 5 Best Portable Bluetooth Speakers Of 2022

The Sonos Move is a great speaker if you’ve invested in Sonos speakers. You can connect it indoors and pair it with other speakers at home, then take it with you when you’re going out or camping.

I’d say it’s great for people who take their speakers out into the garden a lot. The battery life is enough to get you through an evening in the sun, it can withstand a bit of rain and still connect to WiFi, so you don’t have to have a specific phone paired.

It’s also very loud with great bass, it’s amazing, I wouldn’t say it’s massive, although it’s heavy.

Sonos Roam is the smallest portable Sonos speaker. It has the same functions as the Move and has a higher IP67 rating. Battery life is the same at 10 hours, not amazing but more than enough
