Mx Sound – Audio from Logitech from our latest line of desktop accessories including MX Sound 2.0 Bluetooth speakers, MX ERGO mice and CRAFT keyboards. Like most stereo speakers around $99, they’re positioned as a good upgrade over integrated monitor and laptop speakers, which usually sound bad.
The company stated that design quality and audio performance were the focus when developing these global devices. So it was interesting to compare them to the acclaimed GigaWorks T20 Series II speakers from Creative, which has had an impressive fan base over the past decade.
The minimalist style of the MX Sound speakers are 10 cm deep and 6 inches in diameter with a soft slate-coloured fabric finish, and the rear bass port on the outer edge of each unit protrudes slightly like an orbiting moon.
Logitech Mx Sound 2.0 Speakers Review
The right speaker has a motion sensor that detects when a hand approaches, turning on the vertical pairing strip and volume control. The symbol actually shines from the back of the fabric.
When I first received the speaker, I thought the motion sensor would respond to gestures, but I thought I could adjust the volume or change the currently playing music track with a hand gesture, for example, but it doesn’t. I was a little worried that the fabric would show greasy fingers over time, as I had to touch the lit controls to actually work.
At least the lights are touch sensitive so you don’t have to press too hard to activate them. The same is true because if the speaker is tilted back slightly, the bass will become slightly unstable. For example, the device may fall if the cable is pulled down.
There is a 3.5mm jack on the back of the same speaker if you want to connect everything you have with an extra 3.5mm auxiliary port and cable for your computer, smartphone, music player, or other audio equipment. Complementing the connection sequence are a port for connecting a cable from the left speaker, a power jack for connecting an external PSU, and a headphone port.

When the device is successfully paired, the Bluetooth symbol on the right speaker will flash and you will hear a short beep. MX Sound 2.0 speakers are equipped with Bluetooth 4.1, allowing you to connect wirelessly to two devices at the same time. This really worked when I paired my iPad mini 4 and iPhone 6s with the speaker. Pausing music on one device and playing it on another will seamlessly switch the connection.
However, when I changed one of the mobile devices on my 2015 MacBook Pro, the same functionality was not available. After the Mac to iPhone connection changed, I had to go to macOS Bluetooth settings and manually select MX Sound to pair it again with my laptop. Depending on your settings, this can be a bit frustrating.
The wireless performance itself was robust enough and maintained the connection at a good 25 meter field of view as advertised. So when I took my phone down the hallway, I could hear the music playing clear and crisp on the speakers in the living room.
In terms of sound reproduction, Logitech’s speakers deliver fantastically rich sound for a compact 24-watt device (12-watt RMS) with no distortion at volumes that would reasonably be expected to run on a regular work/computer. room. The soundstage is deep and comprehensive, no doubt thanks to this satellite-style bass port. Of course, it doesn’t rock the ground as you would expect from a subwoofer system, but for the 2.0 stereo speakers, the performance really shines.

Voice separation is well defined, allowing vocals and instruments to express themselves clearly in most genres. The unit also has a nice midrange with plenty of detail. The treble can sometimes cut a few high notes, but at this price point it’s forgivable and can only be felt from afar. Usually, I could not be cursed while sitting about 1 meter in front of my desk.
I’m really impressed with Logitech’s MX Sound 2.0 computer speakers. It delivers crystal-clear desktop sound on par with Creative’s GigaWorks T20 Series II, and I think it’ll pair well with your iMac or MacBook and Logitech’s MX Series peripherals. Motion-sensitive backlight controls are responsive and discreet, and hand gestures are a nice bonus, but you can’t expect everything for $99.
The older design means it’s not the most stable unit around. So if your desk space tends to be messy, you might want to think twice. My one complaint is that the connecting cable between the two speakers can be a bit longer, but otherwise it’s a solid speaker pair and will be a great addition to most desktop setups.
Logitech MX Sound 2.0 computer speakers can be ordered directly from the company website and from Amazon.
