After years of using passive speakers for my sound setup with reliable results, I thought I would invest in some active speakers to reduce the amount of equipment moving in and out of the halls. So, being very picky about how my setup sounded, I looked at a number of different speaker brands before making a final decision on active speakers. I chose the redesigned Mackie Thump 15A speakers after listening to several other brands. I was advised that the difference between passive and active would be very different. Indeed it was. Long story short, Mackie Thumps me and my fans the first night I used it! If I’m honest, I had to dial back the bass a bit because some of the songs were a bit too powerful. My equanimity was primarily due to failure. The top end was clear and accurate and I found I had less tinnitus at the end of the event which made the whole experience really good. Keep an eye on the clip LED and play the bass again if this becomes a problem. This fixes this and the speakers will still sound good and go a little louder if needed. I have found that leaving the main volume on the back of each speaker at 50% with my mixer is sufficient. In summary, the Mackie Thump 15A is a good investment and it’s clear to see that Mackie has done some homework with these, especially at this price. These speakers are the business and are so good that I now have two, but one was more than enough in a bar of about 70-80 people and wasn’t on until 5am! You have to tweak the EQ a bit to get it the way you want it. the rear gets a little warm compared to the SRM 650s and a good note you can’t get the bass from the rear which is a plus

Mackie has been smart about bringing the Thump Go speakers to life, as they are basically loaded to deliver big hits time and time again. Bluetooth provides the convenience of allowing users to take their audio almost anywhere and stream their choice of music/content to their phones, tablets and everything. The Thump Connect 2 streaming and control app is easy to use, has all the features on the speaker’s back panel, works seamlessly and is available for Android and iOS users. Pairing was perfect, as was stereo pairing at the touch of a button, located next to the Bluetooth pairing button.

The 2-channel digital mixer and XLR microphone output controls are on the right rear of the enclosure. All buttons are properly labeled and their functions are self-explanatory. The end user can configure the speakers to their desired preferences within minutes based on the application. EQ curves are also printed below the controls for reference. The ON/OFF switch is located under the rear center of the housing. When the speaker is turned on, a green light strip under the speaker knob illuminates. It can be turned off with a button on the back if desired. Personally, we would have liked the green ring around the Mackie logo to light up, but it’s awesome.
Battery power provides enough juice to drive these efficient Class D speakers for up to 12 hours (as Mackie claims), depending largely on volume levels, but in our practical experience, 8 hours at full tilt , fully integrated. The battery pack is removable and you don’t need any tools, the covers can be removed
