, Logitech’s first attempt at a small portable Bluetooth speaker. I said it did the exact same thing as the $175
, and while not nearly as good – and less attractive – costs half as much.
The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is a very compact Bluetooth speaker with a built-in rechargeable battery, speaker capability, a line input and a rugged design. It sounds good because of its small size.
The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox has an improved design and slightly better sound than last year’s Mini Boombox – for the same price.

Now, under its Ultimate Ears brand, Logitech has released a sequel to that product, the UE Mobile Boombox. Basically, it’s a similar speaker, but the engineers made some design improvements and slightly improved the sound, leaving the list price unchanged at $99.99.
The Mobile Boombox is smaller than the Jambox and weighs in at 10.5 ounces (298g). It’s easy enough to put in a bag or purse and it’s obviously small enough to easily take to the patio, pool or beach (it’s really small). It makes for a great travel companion.
While the previous Mini Boombox had touch-sensitive buttons on top of the speaker and a glossy exterior, the Mobile Boombox has a rubberized, more durable casing and the standard buttons on top of the device. It comes in a few different colors (I tried the black version) and has an auxiliary input for plugging in non-Bluetooth-enabled audio devices (you have to provide the cable, though).
One of the reasons for the rubberized design is that some people have complained that when you feed the Mini Boombox bass-heavy material and pump up its volume, it tends to vibrate and move, even though it there are several feet of gum.

The truth is that these small speakers are not really designed to be loud and pack a powerful sound. They can play loud for their size and fill a small sound room, but they probably sound better at 6-8 on the volume scale than 10. They also offer almost no stereo separation. , because their drivers inside are keenly close. .
On the back you’ll find the power switch, a Micro-USB port for charging the unit (cable and power adapter included, but any standard phone charger should work), and the auxiliary input mentioned above.
Logitech simplified the button layout on the unit. There’s a volume up/down button, along with a Bluetooth button to set up pairing.
Pairing the speaker is pretty simple: just press the Bluetooth icon on top of the unit and search for Bluetooth devices on your phone or tablet from the Bluetooth menu. Once connected, you’re ready to start streaming music or a movie soundtrack to the speaker.
Logitech Ue Boombox And Mobile Boombox Review: Bluetooth Speakers With A Rich Sound
Logitech says you can stream up to 50 feet away from the speaker (I was able to reach that distance in my tests) and it’s also worth noting that you can pair up to eight different devices to the speaker, which making it easy to move back and forth. forward between those devices (that said, you can only stream audio from one device at a time).
My only problem with the design is that since there is no raised “feet” on the bottom of the unit (it’s a flat piece of rubberized plastic), I expect the finish on the bottom to wear off over time, especially. if you use it outside like I did for a few days. In other words, pay attention to the surface you put the speaker on.
I’m not going to lie to you and say it’s good. But as I said in the previous model, when it enters the small speaker category, only OK sound is a feat, and most people should be impressed that such a small speaker can produce enough sound which is decent. It can play loud enough and emit more sound than the internal speakers of your average smartphone or tablet.
The first Mini Boombox can’t handle is very low at higher volumes. It can be done, but only because Logitech engineers have done a better job making sure the speaker doesn’t distort at higher volumes. But it tends to sound a bit thin and not very open or expansive (when I review headphones, I refer to it as a “conserved” sound, and that description applies here).
Ultimate Ears Delivers Huge Sound With The New Ue Mini Boom
Unsurprisingly, where the Mobile Boombox sounds best is in acoustic material and lighter fare. For example, the live acoustic version of Caetano Veloso and David Byrne’s “Live at Carnegie Hall” and Adele’s “Turning Tables” sounded so good you thought you were listening to a bigger speaker.
As for battery life, you can run it for about 10 hours before recharging, which is pretty decent. I found it works well as a speakerphone, although you’ll want to keep it a few feet away from you when speaking into the built-in microphone (I can hear callers a little better than they can hear me).
Ultimately, the Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is carefully designed and offers some small but significant improvements over the previous Mini Boombox.
Usually, when a company improves a product, I rate it higher than the previous model. But in the last year, there have been a lot of mini Bluetooth speakers on the market for this price and while I think the Mobile Boombox is better than most in this price range, its sound quality isn’t quite up to par. put head – shoulders above others. So it gets 3.5 stars – just like the last model. It’s great value for money, just not great.
Gomadic Double Wall Ac Home Charger Suitable For The Logitech Ue Mobile Boombox
Buy your favorite products and we’ll find the best deals in just one click. Designed to make shopping easier. The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is a portable Bluetooth speaker with great battery life, great sound quality and a very attractive price.
Logitech offers a smaller package than the Jawbone JAMBOX and a cheaper price, without sacrificing sound quality. After using the JAMBOX and the UE Mobile Boombox, I feel the Mobile Boombox is a better product.
The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is available in five color combinations with a smooth finish and a large speaker grill with simple controls on top of the device.
For its size, the Logitech UE Mobile Boombox packs great sound that’s also quite loud thanks to twin 1-inch drivers. Sound quality is very good for a portable Bluetooth speaker, with some clear highs and lows. This speaker does not replace a larger system, but removes the ports of built-in speakers for laptops, tablets and smartphones.
Ue Boom 2 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (black)
The speaker can also act as a Bluetooth speaker, but callers said it sounded muddy while using it. The quality is better on my end, but this feature is not a selling point.
The Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is solidly built with a soft touch finish. I’ve taken the Mobile Boombox on many trips and the device has held up well for travel. There are three buttons above the speaker, volume and volume, as well as a pairing button that offers hassle-free Bluetooth pairing. The Mobile Boombox can be paired with multiple devices, up to eight, so it’s possible to share the speaker between my small number of items or share it with other people.
The Bluetooth range is excellent, allowing me to walk around the house with the speaker, leaving my iPad mini in my office without losing the connection.
There is also a line on the back of the device to connect to non-Bluetooth devices. The power switch is a physical toggle, so you know the device is on or off, and it’s not accidentally turned on while in my bag.

Battery life averages from 8 to 10 hours, which is about what Logitech claims. My only complaint with the battery life is that there is no indicator that the battery life is low until it is too late to do anything about it. It would be great if Logitech included a function to tell me the battery life is estimated when I activate the speaker. The speaker charges with a Micro USB cable, so it’s relatively easy to find a charge.
