Libratone Zipp Smart Wireless Speaker – The Danes are back with the Zipp 2, a speaker that boasts plenty of connectivity options, and Amazon Alexa, the amazing virtual assistant.
Danish company Libratone, known for its beautifully designed and great sounding audio products, is back with the Zipp 2. This smart speaker comes with Amazon Alexa virtual assistant, tons of connectivity options and even a slick user interface. What’s not to love?
Libratone Zipp Smart Wireless Speaker
Zipp 2 is a smart speaker that delivers 360-degree room-filling sound through controller configuration. There is no shortage of connectivity options, and with a great design, the speaker has all the key ingredients for a best-in-class product. However, it is not quite perfect because the water resistance is insufficient.

The price of Zipp 2 fluctuates. The speaker was originally priced at £219, but has now gone back to £279. Despite the price increase, I have not changed my verdict.
It has plenty of competition: the Ultimate Ears Megablast costs £170 and is a fully waterproof smart speaker; The £200 Sonos One is the best in terms of sound; and of course there’s the Amazon speaker set that only supports Alexa calls. The regular second-generation Echo costs just £90, while its bigger and more capable sibling the Echo Plus (first generation) costs £90 and the newer second-generation Plus £140. The Plus series connects intelligently with other devices in your smart home.

As its name suggests, the speaker has a zipper that allows the cover to be removed. This is especially useful if you want to change the color or just want to clean the cap. Additional covers can be purchased for an additional fee. Once removed, it reveals the Zipp 2 drivers, which are housed in an all-plastic case.
At the top of the speaker is a circular touch panel that allows you to control its functions. Touch the backlit microphone button to activate Alexa, which you can also activate by voice using the six remote microphones.
Hold the button a little longer and you will see more options: the option to mute the microphone; silent gesture recognition to mute the speaker; media control; top five playlists or radio stations; SoundSpace Link for connecting up to 10 Libratone speakers; RoomEQ, which calibrates the speaker’s EQ to match the environment; and software updates. You can even adjust the speaker output volume by rotating your finger clockwise or counterclockwise around the dial. Fashionable.
Libratone Zipp Review: A High Fidelity Bluetooth Speaker
When it comes to connectivity, the Libratone is a no-brainer as you have AirPlay 2, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DNLA, USB and a 3.5mm jack. Unlike the Sonos One, which ignores Bluetooth, the Danish manufacturer has made it much easier for your friends and family to pair their devices with the smart speaker.
The Zipp 2 weighs 1.2kg, is 261mm tall and 122mm wide. That doesn’t make it the world’s thinnest or most portable smart speaker, but the fabric handle makes it easy to carry around. The speaker also uses battery power, meaning there is no need to plug it in. The battery lasts for approximately 10 hours and charges fairly quickly via the proprietary DC connector.
The main disadvantage is insufficient water resistance. Unlike the Ultimate Ears Megablast, it can’t withstand a splash, let alone a full submersion. There is also support for Bluetooth aptX, which is a higher quality codec that increases the fidelity of wireless audio.

The Libratone app provides an intuitive user interface for remote speaker control. With it, you can turn Alexa on or off, stream Spotify (via Spotify Connect), Tidal, and your favorite radio stations from around the world. Because the speaker is built with Alexa in mind, Amazon Music is naturally the default music service. It has a wide selection of songs, so you won’t have a problem finding your favorite.
In the application you will find EQ settings, the ability to change the brightness of the LED and see what is playing (including the source). That can’t be said for some of its competitors, so it’s great to see Libratone’s focus on user experience, which will make a difference in day-to-day use.
Amazon Alexa also works incredibly well. The six remote microphones pick up voices from a great distance, although if you turn up the volume you’ll naturally have to shout to be heard, which is actually common sense.
Libratone Zipp Mini Portable Wireless Speaker
Like other non-Amazon speakers, the Zipp 2 doesn’t have Alexa voice calling — if you don’t want it, you’ll have to opt for one of the Echo devices.
Libratone designed the Zipp 2 for room-to-room audio. For convenience, a plastic reflector is placed between the 4-inch neodymium woofer and the 1-inch neodymium soft-dome tweeter for full 360-degree sound. This thing is getting very loud.
Two 4-inch woofers bring the Zipp 2 down to 50 Hz, perfect for the subtle bass rumble of Bad Bunny and Drake’s “Mia.” Its mid-bass impact is quite impressive. Not only does it reproduce a tight, controlled mid-bass shunt, but it also doesn’t overwhelm the mids. Other smart speakers like the Ultimate Ears Megablast or Amazon Echo struggle in this area, but not the Zipp 2. So if you’ve been dying to enjoy Michael Jackson’s voice on Rock With You, you’re in luck. Its performance in this department is similar to the Sonos One, but not as promising as the other.
Slick New Wireless Speakers Reimagine Your Home Audio Setup
The cymbals sound great. While the Zipp 2 extends well into the upper frequency ranges, it doesn’t sound boomy or fatiguing. Libratone managed to create the right combination. It’s also impressive to hear the speaker’s mastery of instrument separation. I tested Bruno Mars’ “Versace On The Floor” and let me tell you, I was not disappointed: the soft 80’s piano vibe, backing vocals and cymbals are not mixed into one messy mix.
Overall, the Zipp 2 is a pretty smart speaker. It sounds fantastic, has an intuitive app that makes it easy to use, plenty of connectivity options, Amazon Alexa to meet all your needs, and a stylish Danish design that fits into any environment.
It is quite expensive and is more expensive than the Sonos One, which also boasts great sound quality. But the Zipp 2 also sounds impressively good, comes with all the juicy connectivity options, and can be used on the go. In terms of input and sound capabilities, it far surpasses the Ultimate Ears Megablast and Amazon speakers. In my opinion, this is the best Amazon Alexa speaker on the market right now. In good condition and with charger. If you must collect, then the Burnley store ZIPP 2 battery now lasts even longer – up to 12 hours of music. And the practical carrying strap makes it a great companion – anytime, anywhere. ZIPP 2 can now be controlled by voice via Amazon Alexa. So you can use your voice to select music, check the weather, control smart home devices and more. Doesn’t that sound like the start of a wonderful friendship? Sometimes you just need to listen to a single song, playlist or radio station. It won’t get any easier.
