The JBL Xtreme 3, as the name suggests, is the third iteration of JBL’s Xtreme line of powerful portable speakers. Measuring 11.73 x 5.4 x 5.24 inches and weighing 1.83 kg, it is a very thin and heavy device that should be held in two hands.

It has a metal JBL logo on the front with an LED indicator below to let you know the battery level. Hiding behind him are four drivers.

Above there are two metal belt hooks, the PartyBoost button that allows you to connect it to other JBL headphones with the same function, the volume down and power buttons, and the illuminated power and bluetooth buttons.

Speaking of the bar, it has metal grommets with a built in metal bottle opener, which makes it great for drinking parties. It’s great that you can easily carry this around if there’s nowhere to put it safely.

On the back cover there is a USB Type-A port for charging other devices, a USB-C port for charging the headset and other devices, and a 3.5mm aux port.

Dual passive radiators are found on each side of the speaker to increase the lows. Around it are hard plastic spurs that also serve his legs when they are held vertically.

The JBL Xtreme 3 is a well-made device with a textured texture around it, while the rest of the body is made of high-quality plastic. JBL doesn’t claim to be shockproof, but it does seem to handle a few small bumps.

The good thing is that it resists water dust, thanks to its IP67 rating so you can take it with you to the pool or beach, and not have to worry about the elements ruining it.

Pairing is easy. When powered on, the speaker is already ready to join via Bluetooth 5.1. Just go to your smartphone settings and select JBL Xtreme 3.

When it comes to sound quality, as expected, it’s high. The bass is deep, clean and very audible. In higher dimensions, you can feel it bending. However, we’ve noticed that it places more emphasis on mids and highs, which means vocals, chords, and rhythm are clear and detailed. However, it tends to beat the lower levels at the larger volumes. However, it is a great speaker for indoor use or small outdoor parties.

When it comes to battery, the JBL Xtreme 3 has a 3.63Wh battery and can provide 15 hours of runtime, which is very good. Charging the battery takes 2.5 hours.

Although the JBL Xtreme 3 is the perfect outdoor party speaker, we still consider it a great indoor speaker. In addition to using it to play our favorite tunes, we also used it to boost the sound of our TV, smartphone or tablet, when we’re watching Netflix. We’re sure this speaker will survive the pandemic and be ready when we can celebrate outside again. JBL’s signature Bluetooth speaker design is a cylinder, and the JBL Xtreme 3 doesn’t stray from that proven formula. It’s meant to lie in the cramped space between ultra-portable speakers and powerful party partners, similar to its predecessor, the JBL Xtreme 2. At the end of the day, however, it still sounds as good as the previous version.

Editor’s note: Our JBL Xtreme 3 review was updated on March 10, 2022, to include a frequency response table and answer some frequently asked questions.

The JBL Xtreme 3 is still water-resistant, making it a great companion for trips to the park.

Just like the JBL Flip 6 and some of our favorite JBL speakers, the JBL Xtreme 3 is a big drum with passive bass radiators at each end. The mainframe engines are still a solid and reliable arrangement. The Xtreme 3 has a more solid IP67 rating compared to the IPX7 rating of its predecessor. This means that the third-generation speaker is dust and water resistant. The Xtreme 3 can survive being dropped in a puddle, and the back of the grill won’t be exposed to dirt and sand.

But most of the similarities between the second and third generation Xtreme amplifiers end there. Xtreme 3

For a “portable” bluetooth speaker weighing 2.68 kg with carrying strap. This means that they are portable the way a foldable chair or portable grocery bags are. You can carry it on your shoulder, but expect to feel the weight. After a while, you will feel the tape digging in as well. It would definitely be a burden if you were going up hills, or even a leisurely trail, with this speaker.

Instead, the bracelet appears to be intended to connect the speaker from point A to B while leaving your hands free to hold beach supplies or party drinks. Speaking of drinks, there is a handy bottle opener on the carrying strap in case you forget to bring one.

The JBL Xtreme 3 is a “portable” Bluetooth speaker in the sense that it includes a carrying strap, but is heavy and bulky.

The JBL Xtreme 3 replaces the small legs of the Xtreme 2 with a textured area on the bottom — similar to those on the JBL Clip 4. This feels less stable than the two obvious speaker rest areas, which I prefer. As a result, it remains stable on flat surfaces but requires more precision on slopes or intersections. The plastic bumpers on the head allow the speaker to bounce back, especially if you place it next to the bass radiator. The fenders prevent scratches and damage, but they also mean that these areas collect bumps and marks quickly.

There are two USB ports on the back, including a USB-C I/O port and a Type-A power output port. You also get a 3.5mm aux input here for wired playback. All of these are behind a small door that protects them from dust and debris.

The JBL Xtreme 3 has buttons that are easy to ignore by feel, except for the power and bluetooth buttons that light up but not differently.

Aside from the JBL Xtreme 3, you’ll find the same control buttons as many other speakers from the brand. This includes volume adjustments, PartyBoost, and a built-in play, pause, and skip button. JBL does not repeat these buttons, but they are shaped differently from each other. The power and bluetooth buttons light up, but are not distinguished by their shape or texture. There is a battery indicator below the “JBL” logo and is now larger and lower than the small red badge that adorns the Xtreme 2.

The JBL Xtreme 3 PartyBoost supports many other JBL speakers, but the stereo mode only works with other JBL Xtreme 3s.

The JBL Xtreme 3 uses the JBL Portable app (iOS and Android), formerly known as “JBL Connect” to install firmware updates and provides another place to access the user’s guide.

In the app, you can turn note tones from the speaker on or off and enable PartyBoost without pressing the special button on the speaker. But like other speakers of the brand, only stereo mode works with it
