Jbl Partybox Go Portable Speaker Black

The JBL PartyBox 100 is a great speaker with an attractive design thanks to the circular RGB lights. Its sound profile is fairly neutral and balanced with a bit more bass range, making it suitable for many different types of audio content. It can be loud and has a Bass Boost function that can please fans of music genres like EDM. Unfortunately, it’s quite big and bulky and doesn’t support voice assistant technology. However, it does have inputs for microphones and guitars, which are suitable for musicians.

The JBL PartyBox 100 is satisfying for music. This speaker has a balanced, neutral sound profile with added bass, making it suitable for listening to many different music genres. It has a good soundscape and can be loud, although there are some compression artifacts at maximum volume. Unfortunately, there’s no equalizer to tweak your sound, but the Bass Boost feature gives you some control over your bass reproduction.

The JBL PartyBox 100 is suitable for videos and movies. Its neutral sound profile can clearly reproduce dialogue, and the added punch of bass helps bring action-packed scenes to life. It also gets loud, although there is a bit of compression at maximum volume. While its latency with Android devices is likely to be too high for watching videos, luckily it works a bit better with iOS devices. Also, some apps compensate for latency, so your experience may vary.

The JBL PartyBox 100 is ideal for podcasting. Its sound profile is quite neutral and balanced, especially in the mid and high ranges where the voices are reproduced. It can sound very loud, and while there are some compression artifacts at maximum volume, you probably won’t notice them when listening to your favorite podcasts.

Jbl Partybox 100 Review: The Party Starts Here

The JBL PartyBox 100 is satisfactory for outdoor use. It has a solid and durable construction, but it is not waterproof or dustproof. Its sound profile is fairly neutral, and while there’s a little extra boost in the bass range, it’s fine for listening to a wide variety of audio content. It can get loud, and the 10-hour battery life should be enough to get you through long days outdoors.

The JBL PartyBox 100 is a big, tall speaker, though it’s not quite as big as the JBL PartyBox 300. It’s made mostly of plastic, with a metal grill on the front to help protect the drivers. The circular RGB lights are quite prominent and you can choose from three different patterns or turn them off. There are also two strobe lights that you can turn off as well. This speaker can be placed vertically or horizontally.

The JBL PartyBox 100 is quite portable. It is long and heavy, so it may not be easy to transport. On the plus side, there are two handles to help you carry it around and you don’t need to plug it into a power source for it to work. Consider the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go if you want a similar speaker that’s smaller and more portable.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has an acceptable build quality. Like the JBL PartyBox 300, it’s made primarily of plastic, with a metal grille on the front. The speaker has rubber feet on both sides and bottom, and the handles have a non-slip rubber coating. Overall, it feels pretty sturdy and durable, but it doesn’t have an IP rating for dust or water resistance, so you’ll need to be careful if you use it outdoors. If you’re looking for a more rugged outdoor speaker, consider the Sony SRS-XB23, which has an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, though we’re not currently testing it.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has bottom controls. You can play/pause music, increase/decrease volume, power on/off, control Bass Boost and Mic Echo settings, control RGB lighting, and activate Bluetooth pairing mode. Bass Boost has three different settings: Off, Level 1, or Level 2. You can even adjust the volume for the mic and guitar inputs. The LED lights also show the battery level a few seconds after you turn on the speaker or click the buttons. The buttons feel solid and clicky, but they don’t always register a command immediately after pressing, which can be frustrating. For a speaker with radio capabilities, check out the ION Pathfinder 280.

Update 08.09.2021. We retested the JBL PartyBox 100 and found that its volume increases significantly by 3dB when plugged in. However, there is no change in the test results as this performance improvement does not seem to affect its sound profile. You can check the schedule for this test here.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has decent frequency response accuracy. When set to “Bass Boost 1”, it has a fairly neutral sound profile that is suitable for playing a wide variety of audio content. There’s a little extra boom in the bass range, which may please fans of music genres like EDM and hip-hop. Unfortunately, there is no equalizer that can be used to further modify your sound. If you’re looking for a more customizable party speaker, the Sony XB72’s companion app includes a graphic equalizer and presets so you can adjust your sound to your liking.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has a good soundscape. You can create a stereo image by using separate speakers for the left and right channels, creating a wide soundstage. However, its soundstage can be perceived as a bit narrow and directional, which may not sound very natural.

Note. Although this speaker has one fewer tweeter than the JBL PartyBox 300, it can still use its woofers to create a stereo image. You can use it vertically or horizontally and still get stereo sound.

Update 09/08/2021: After retesting the JBL PartyBox 100, we found a significant gain of 3dB when the speaker is plugged into a power source. However, there is no change in the test results as we expect most users to use this speaker wirelessly.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has excellent dynamic performance. It gets very noisy, so it’s suitable for use at large, crowded parties. There is some compression at maximum volume, but it may not be noticeable if the content is true.

Jbl Partybox 100 Speaker Review

The JBL PartyBox 100 has impressive battery performance. The manufacturer advertises 12 hours of playback, but in our tests it lasted 10 hours on a single charge with the RGB lights off. It also goes into sleep mode after 20 minutes of inactivity and into standby mode after 20 minutes of being disconnected from a Bluetooth source, which can help save battery life. If you’re looking for a speaker with incredible battery life, consider the JBL Boombox 2 or the JBL PartyBox 310.

This speaker does not have an additional app and is not compatible with the JBL Partybox app like the next generation JBL PartyBox 110. However, you can use True Wireless Stereo to connect up to two party speakers via Bluetooth technology. If you want a speaker with more sound customization features, consider the Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM.

This speaker has multiple cable entries. There’s a 1/8″ AUX port so you can plug your phone directly into the speaker. There’s also a 1/4″ mic input port with a volume knob and a 1/4″ guitar input port with one volume knob. You can use the USB type A port to listen to music from a USB drive. You can also connect your device to the speaker using this cable to use the speaker as a power bank.

The JBL PartyBox 100 has a very good Bluetooth connection. You can pair it with up to two devices, which is great for listeners who like to switch audio sources frequently. Android devices have some latency, so it may not be ideal for watching videos. However, it works a bit better with iOS devices and some apps compensate for latency, so your experience may vary.
