JBL has options at basically every price point, but the best speakers for the price have always been the Charge series. The JBL Charge 4 speaker is a few years old now, but you can still find it in various stores. How well has it held up since it was first released?

At first glance, the Charge 4 looks no different from the previous Charge 3. If you still can’t tell, the JBL Charge 4 isn’t all that different from the previous model. It’s repetition of repetition, but connection is where things begin to change. The Charge 4 has all your bases covered with a solid connection like most Bluetooth speakers up to about 30 feet. The playback controls work great and the buttons are nice and clicky, although I wish the buttons were white plastic or illuminated like the power button, as it’s hard to see which one it is in the dark. The Charge 4 also doesn’t have a built-in microphone, so if you tend to use the speakerphone for calls, you might be annoyed. Personally, I never want a microphone on my speakerphone and I always make the effort to unplug my phone whenever I get a call, so this is a real positive for me, but I can see how it could be a deal breaker.
