Jbl Charge 4 Sound Settings

Jbl Charge 4 Sound Settings – If you want to prepare for the future and get the new JBL Connect+, this is definitely the way to go. Otherwise, there’s not much difference between it and the Charge 3 before it (although USB-C charging is certainly nice).

If you’re in the market for a Bluetooth speaker, one brand stands out above the rest. JBL has options at almost every price point, but for the price the best speakers have always been the Charge series. The JBL Charge 4 speaker is now a few years old, but you can still find it at various retailers. How well has it held up since the initial release?

At first glance, the Charge 4 doesn’t look that different from the previous Charge 3. But if you look a little closer, you start to notice some minor differences in build and size. The Charge 4 is slightly larger by about a centimeter in all dimensions, but it’s also heavier at 165 grams (7.05 ounces). While this obviously isn’t a huge deal, it’s not good news if you’re counting on the speaker’s portability. If you’re hiking, an ounce in the morning is a pound by nightfall. That said, it shouldn’t really matter in day-to-day activities. You should be able to throw it in the bag without any problems.

JBL also upgraded the battery from 6000mAh on the Charge 3 to around 7500mAh on the Charge 4. Additionally, the Charge 4 still retains most of the features that made the Charge 3 so great.

Yes, the rugged waterproof fabric is back with an IPX7 certification that lets you submerge it in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It also floats for a while if you drop it in the water, so you don’t have to worry about losing it if it falls off the boat or deck. They also feature dual passive radiators on either end, like most new JBL speakers over the past few years.

Editor’s note: Sarah tested the JBL Flip 4’s IPX7 rating by submerging it in a pool for about 10 seconds, and it broke. The speaker was still making sound, but the sound was drowned out by a loud crackling sound. JBL customer support stated that the one-year warranty has expired and defective out-of-warranty products cannot be replaced free of charge. JBL is a company whose biggest selling point is their waterproofing, this was disappointing.

Up top, you’ll find the playback buttons slightly raised above the fabric, along with the power and Bluetooth buttons. There’s a small built-in stand at the bottom with five small LED lights that tell you how much battery life is left when you tap the power button, and there’s a rubber cover on the back that covers all the ports. You’ll definitely want to make sure it’s off if you’re wearing it to the beach or hanging out by the pool.

Jbl Flip 4 Bluetooth Speaker Review

The Charge 4 has the playback buttons on top with power on and an illuminated Bluetooth pairing button.

Connecting to a speaker might not be as easy as your AirPods, but it’s still pretty easy. As soon as you turn it on, you need to press the Bluetooth button next to the power button to enter pairing mode. From there, find the device to connect it to in the Bluetooth settings.

If you still can’t tell, the JBL Charge 4 isn’t much different from the previous model. It’s iteration after iteration, but connectivity is where things start to fall apart. The Charge 4 has all your bases covered with a connection as strong as most Bluetooth speakers up to about 30 feet. The playback controls work great and the buttons are nice and clicky, although I wish the buttons were made of white plastic or all lit up like the power button as it’s hard to see who’s who when it’s dark. The Charge 4 also doesn’t have a built-in microphone, so you might get annoyed if you use its speakerphone for phone calls. Personally, I never want a microphone on my speaker and I always fail to turn off my phone when I get a call, so this is actually a positive thing for me, but I can see how this could be a problem for some. .

On paper, you’ll notice that the JBL Charge 4 has Bluetooth 4.2 instead of the older 4.1, which is nice, but the real differences have to do with JBL Connect. If you’ve never owned a JBL speaker, JBL Connect is the feature that lets you sync multiple speakers together to play the same song. It’s not really on par with the Sonos system, but it can definitely work if you’re hosting a party. JBL Connect+ is an improved version of the older JBL Connect and allows you to connect up to 100 JBL speakers together instead of just one or two. If you have a mansion, this would be a great party trick.

Jbl Charge 5 Review: Best Medium Sized Speaker?

Unfortunately, if you bought an older speaker with a regular JBL Connect (like the Charge 3), it won’t be compatible with this new Plus version. So if you and a few friends are going to get together at 100 of them and throw a Project X-style party, this might be a feature that might interest you. To the average person, I doubt it matters much.

If you’re having trouble connecting to your Charge 4, it might be a good idea to reset it and start from scratch. To do this, simply follow these steps:

There are little LED lights on the stand that let you know how much juice you have left.

Although the JBL Charge 4 has a much larger battery capacity than the Charge 3, both are advertised as having 20 hours of continuous playback. During our testing, we got the Charge 4 to play music for 13 hours and 46 minutes. It wasn’t the promised 20 hours, but still not bad. It will be a hit if you choose to charge your devices via USB-A output. You’ll also find a 3.5mm input and a USB Type-C input on the back, but Type-C can only be used for charging. So if you have a Type-C to Type-C cable and you’re hoping to charge your new Android phone or iPad Pro through that port, you’re out of luck. You should use the USB-A port for anything related to charging.

Jbl Charge 4 Review: Jbl Charge 4 Bluetooth Speaker Gets Some Key Upgrades

This was the part where I was most surprised as I expected the sound quality to be improved compared to the Charge 3, but it seems to be very similar to my ears. JBL went with a single driver instead of duals this time, but aside from a few minor gripes, I don’t think many people will buy this speaker. Just like the previous model, the new JBL Charge 4 has a strong low end for its size, which is no doubt helped by those passive radiators.

Like the older Charge 3, this model will sound better in larger rooms and open spaces – mostly due to the fact that bass loses power faster over distance than louder sounds. If you use the Charge 4 in a barn, yard or garage: the sound will be a little lower and a little more pleasant for you.

The sound signature and quality of the JBL Charge 4 is almost identical to the JBL Charge 3.

Bass notes in Tearing at the Seams by Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Suite were crisp and easy to track, but the speaker suffers from the same lack of clarity in the mids as the last model. The vocals were still intelligible, but sounded like they took a backseat to some of the song’s instrumentals.

Jbl Charge 4 Vs. Megaboom 3: One Sounds Better At Low Volumes

This was especially true on the song Lost on You from the LP, where the vocals sounded like they were against the strings and backing vocals throughout the chorus. If you’re a treble lover, you don’t need to worry as nothing sounds harsh and I didn’t hear any distortion at high volumes either. Overall, JBL seems to have focused on tuning the speakers to sound as close to the Charge 3 as possible, and that’s impressive considering they only moved one driver. How close did they get? But if you liked the way the last Charge 3 sounded, you’ll like this one too.

Otherwise, you’d be better off going for the JBL Charge 5 with its newer technology, better battery life, and better IP67 rating. For those interested, read our detailed JBL Charge 5 review
