There are millions of Bluetooth speakers to buy these days, but three brands rise to the top: Bose, Ultimate Headphones, and JBL. And of these three, only JBL produces models that also act as backup batteries for phones and other USB devices: the “charging line”.
The JBL Commander 3 is a well-designed, fully waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker that offers good battery life and can be used as an external charger for portable devices. It also has a built in speakerphone and plays sound with strong bass for its size and price class.
The JBL Command 3 is bigger than its predecessor, fully waterproof and sounds bigger – but it should sound a little better.
The JBL Charge 3 is priced like the JBL Charge 2+ and has the same list price of $150 and £150. In Australia, the sticker price is AU 229, but you can buy this for less than AU 200. Although the charging 2+ is waterproof, its successor is fully waterproof, IPX7 certified, meaning it can be completely submerged in water for a short time. Without walls in the way, a strong connection can be felt at about 50 to 60 feet. But when the walls are in the way, the distribution goes back to about 30 feet.
