In many ways, the JBL Boombox looks like any other JBL speaker It has a tube shape and is wrapped in the same tough fabric fabric found on the JBL Flip or Charge speakers. The JBL Boombox bills itself as a portable Bluetooth speaker, but it’s definitely less portable than your average Bluetooth speaker—if we didn’t already know it, the Boombox is huge (10″ H x 19.5″ W x 7.7″) and heavy (11.5 pounds). The boombox may be heavy, but it feels very durable, and we think the soft rubberized surfaces on the sides and bottom should make it durable enough. The JBL Boombox 2 is a large, portable Bluetooth speaker that delivers powerful bass depth and high volume. At $499.95, it’s also expensive The speaker’s enhanced bass and sculpted treble are unlikely to disappoint purists, but big sound lovers will enjoy its powerful output. While you can certainly find speakers that offer a more nuanced sound experience at this price point, if you’re looking for an outdoor-friendly, fully immersive party system, the Boombox 2 won’t disappoint.
At 10.1 x 19.1 x 7.9 inches (HWD), the 13-pound Boombox 2 isn’t the kind of portable speaker you can throw in your bag. It’s big and heavy, and portable in the sense that it has a built-in handle to carry it around the yard, on the roof, or in the trunk of a car. Its IPX7 rating means it can be submerged in up to 3.3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes We don’t recommend it because Bluetooth doesn’t work well in water, but the thing is, the speaker can work well when wet.
