The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 offers more volume than other portable Bluetooth speakers, but it does so at the cost of portability. Weighing 4.5 pounds and taking up about the same space as a baseball, this speaker certainly won’t be with you on many trips. It can easily follow you from every room in your house and garden, providing you with loud and high-quality music as you go. If you’re not too concerned about size and just want a great-sounding portable speaker for your home, the Bose SoundLink Revolve sounds a little better and doesn’t cost much.

The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 makes a small entry into the portable Bluetooth speaker category. Compared to other Bluetooth speakers, it is so large that it is more suitable for walking around the house than taking it with you wherever you go.
The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 performed well in some of our tests, but particularly poorly in our portability metric, which resulted in an average score (as you can see in the table above).

The Onyx Studio 4 received a high score of 8 in our sound quality test. With its large size it was able to produce a deep, resonant bass, which was not as deep but much clearer than the bass of the JBL Charge 3. It combines this bass with great treble and a large dynamic range to fully create a sound. with a good amount of depth. At times the Onyx Studio 4 lost a bit of clarity when playing high notes, something the Bose SoundLink Revolve was very quick about.

If the speaker is big enough to cover your entire face, we think calling it portable might be a bit of a stretch.
The Onyx Studio 4 was the worst scorer in our portable test. Score 2 out of 10, far from a top score of 10. At 4.5 pounds the Onyx Studio 4 is almost three times heavier than the next heaviest speaker in our review. It’s also very large (it’s actually an 11-inch diameter flying saucer) and won’t fit or take up space in any backpack or purse. It would be hard to imagine a time when we would take this speaker further than the back porch. It can make it on a car camping trip, but with only 4.5 hours of battery life, it won’t be able to get through most fires.
The Studio 4 has a carrying handle, which is great for taking it around the house, but you probably won’t want to carry it around much more than that.
The Onyx Studio 4 was one of the top speakers in our test, sharing a high score of 9 out of 10 with the JBL Charge 3, which puts it ahead of the low score of 4. It is able to maintain sound quality at high levels. and you’ll be able to fill most medium-sized houses with sound. This is the speaker to choose if you want to throw a big party. However, that party had to be at home, because we didn’t want to cover the speaker.

The Onyx Studio 4 lasted 10.5 hours in our battery life test, longer than the manufacturer’s claim of 8 hours, earning an average of 5 out of 10 points. Because this is a speaker that a person could use at home or near their home. , that sounds like more than enough battery life. And, fittingly, it’s a bit more than the average backyard barbeque.
There is a huge difference in the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 price list and, at the time of this writing, it is actually being sold by online retailer sites. The list price is $450, but we often see it selling for a third of that price. At $450 it’s a terrific price because you can find more capable home stereo systems for the same price that are only moderately more portable than the Onyx Studio 4. Plus, if you’re looking for a speaker portable than the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio. 4 is a low value at any price because it may not live up to your expectations. However, if you want a speaker that you can take around the house and be really loud if you want, and you can get it on sale, the Onyx Studio 4 is a reasonable price.
The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 is portable only in the sense that it has a battery and can work wirelessly, but it’s probably a lot more than you’d like if you’re looking for a personal -portable speech. If you’re just looking for a portable speaker around the house, the Onyx Studio 4 is fine.

The speaker feels very comfortable and the quality feel is amazing. The attempt to cover the back with real leather feels a little odd since you can never see it, but it’s a nice detail that adds to the overall visual appeal.
The touch-sensitive controls are located on a rubber strip that runs along the side of the speaker. Here are buttons for pairing with Bluetooth devices and volume and the ability to control the speaker’s battery level. The solution is hard, but we wanted more precision in the uncontrolled size slider.

The Onyx is elegant enough to fit among designer furniture in the living room, and has a built-in battery that lasts 5-8 hours. The frame that carries the speaker is made of stainless steel and acts as a carrying handle and is easy to move between rooms, but otherwise it doesn’t feel very portable. Nothing to bring on the trip, that is.
