Fortunately, there are bass and treble adjustments in the Bose Music app to help you tune the sound to your liking.

It has a well-balanced midrange that reproduces dialogue clearly, although it can sound a bit dark. The Bose Home Speaker 500 is amazing when it comes to voice assistant support. It has built-in Alexa and Google Assistant that you can activate with your voice. It can hear you clearly even when you are in a noisy or distant scene. You can also mute the microphone, which is very convenient.

The controls on the Bose 500 are excellent. There are tactile buttons to help you adjust the volume and play/pause the audio. You can also press the AUX button to activate the input after the device is connected to the speaker. Press the play/pause button twice to skip to the next track, and press three times to skip the previous track. There’s also a ‘Voice Action’ button to activate the voice assistant, a Bluetooth pairing button and six preset buttons that you can program using the app. The mic mute button stays red when on, which is very handy. The color LED display also shows volume adjustment, pairing information and information about the song you’re listening to.
The Bose 500 has a reasonable frequency response accuracy. It has a fairly neutral sound profile, so vocals and lead instruments are reproduced clearly and accurately. However, they can also sound a bit dark due to the understated treble range. This speaker also has trouble reproducing strong bass. However, there are bass and treble adjustment features in the app that help you customize the sound even more to your liking. The Bose speaker 500 has quite good dynamics. It gets quite loud, so it’s suitable for using speakers in a large room or at a large party. However, there is some compression when playing at maximum volume, especially in the low range. The speaker can hear you clearly even if you are not close to the speaker or in a noisy environment. You can also mute the microphone if you don’t want the microphone to hear you.
The Bose Music app is very good. While it doesn’t have full graphic EQ like the Ultimate Ears HYPERBOOM, there are bass and treble adjustments to help you tailor the sound to your liking. You can also use the app to pair with other Bose home speakers to broadcast sound throughout different rooms in your home or at a large party.
This speaker has an AUX port so you can connect your smartphone to the speaker. There’s also a micro USB port on the bottom, but that’s just for speaker maintenance.
The Bose Home Speaker 500 has an excellent Bluetooth connection. Although it does not support multi-device pairing, it has low latency with Android and iOS devices, suitable for watching videos and movies. However, some apps compensate for latency differently, so your real-world experience may vary.

This speaker is Wi-Fi compatible and supports Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast. It has low latency via AirPlay, so sound and picture stay in sync while watching videos or movies. You can also use Chromecast to stream audio from non-video music streaming services, such as Spotify or YouTube Music Premium. However, you can’t use it to play videos from most video streaming services and video players like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and VLC.

In addition, Bose offers a wider soundstage thanks to its 360-degree design and can reproduce stereo content without reducing the sound to mono, providing a more immersive feeling.
The Bose Home Speaker 500 is a slightly better speaker than the Sonos Five, although they have different powers. Bose offers exceptional voice assistant support with built-in Alexa and Google Assistant, and it’s great at hearing you when you’re further away and in noisier environments. It also has a less compressed composition at maximum volume and has a wider soundstage than the Sonos, thanks to its 360-degree design. However, with Trueplay enabled, the Sonos has a better balanced sound profile that can produce louder and quieter bass than the Bose.
