There’s a good reason SVS dominates the subwoofer world. No other company makes a bass-matching subwoofer with such a well-designed and custom-made design at a price that most people can afford. The SVS SB-1000 Pro is, in our opinion, one of the best models they make. Its compact body delivers up to 325 watts of clean, satisfying bass, which we’ve found plays well with almost any brand of speaker. What really stands out is the surprisingly subtle and nuanced sound quality; SB-1000 Pro definitely does not sacrifice clarity for grunt. While there are better options for larger rooms, such as the ELAC Debut 2.0 SUB3030 (below), you won’t find a better subwoofer. We like the SB-1000 Pro so much that we made it our standard subwoofer test for performance. Evaluate other parts of the audio equipment.

The biggest disadvantage of the SB-1000 Pro is its relatively low power. Those with larger rooms (such as those with an area of more than 250 square meters) may not be enough. A more powerful option, such as SVS’s SB-3000 (below) may be a better choice. For the rest of us, the SB-1000 Pro is the model to go to. The Best Wireless Soundbar
In the world of audio, there is no company that needs more than Monoprice for corporate entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with them that thin joints and some vigorous sex won’t cure. This is a company with a deficit of imagination that they do not even disturbed the naming of their products. This is called 9723.
But just because a company has a boring identity doesn’t mean it makes boring tools. Monoprices have been a huge success, and one listen to this subwoofer will tell you why. It may not have the raw power of the ELAC Debut 2.0 SUB3030 or even the BIC America F12, but it delivers beautiful sound quality, with good sound power, but makes it sound bigger than it is. And by removing all the design, Monoprice can offer this gem of a subwoofer at a really low price. If you are on a tight budget, this is the subwoofer to buy.
The SB-3000 is the latest subwoofer model from the American legends at SVS, and we think it deserves to retain its crown as the best high-end subwoofer. Like the previous model, PB16-Ultra, yes, it is still large, unwieldy and too much for most people. The SB-3000 avoids those problems, taking everything the Ultra does well and packing it into a more compact, affordable frame. Those with large rooms may need two of them to get the best sound, but for 90% of people, one of them will blow the walls terribly. It’s a significant (albeit expensive) improvement over the top-rated SB-1000 Pro.
One feature we want to highlight is the excellent DSP (digital signal processing). It allows for virtually infinite level adjustment and means you can get precise, controlled bass that still manages to deliver power. This substrate is especially excellent in movies and television, giving guns, explosions, and real low water effects. The biggest black mark against the Sonos Sub is that you can’t use it with devices from other manufacturers. Do you have an existing home theater setup? You, my friend, are in luck. The subwoofer only works with other Sonos devices, and while the company is trying to make sure the setup and ease of use process works well, you may want to steer clear of this one if lock-in is going to be a problem.
The upside is that if you’re good at just using Sonos gear, you’ll be rewarded with really good sound quality. Although the subwoofer is a little light in the statistics, it does not matter: there is no need to set the crossover point when it automatically adjusts to all other speakers, guaranteeing you easy, clear, deep bass at all times (see our purchase. Instructions section, below, for more information about crossovers and how they work). We also like the design, which allows you to place the subwoofer in any position – useful for small spaces.
Above $1,000, you start to see the subs open up. With 700 watts of continuous power, Seaton Sound’s incredible JS12 really delivers the boom. It’s down to 20Hz – compared to 28Hz for our flagship subwoofer, the Q Acoustics Q B12 – and you can really feel it. A roaring sound that will shake your stomach and shake the walls. That is one hell of an experience. For large rooms (more than 250 square meters) this is the best option.
However, this is a subwoofer for purists. It offers almost no advanced features – no app control, no room editing. Also, we think it might be too expensive for most people. However, if you like raw bass and want some of the best in the business, this is a great place to start. Seaton is a legendary company from Chicago that has been making subs for a long time, including the truly brutal F18+, so you’re in good hands here.
Cinema 400 Sound Bar 2.1 System
The new KEF KC62 is fantastic. It does two things, by itself, to be natural. Together, they make this subwoofer special. For one thing, it’s small, less than ten inches in diameter, smaller than even the pint-sized SVS SB-1000 Pro. On the other hand, it has the deepest bass of all the subs on this list: 11Hz, deeper than even the bigger and more expensive Power Sound Audio S3612. It’s an unreal trick, and it means the KC62 is probably the most futuristic submarine we’ve tested. It has a ton of technology that provides great sound quality, and if you can afford it, it’s a really good option.
We think there are a few issues with the KEF KC62 that keep it from peaking. As small and powerful, it requires careful placement. It has two side launchers, which means you will have to spend time to find the best spot. In addition, it does not have digital controls at all. All the controls are on the back and while they work well, they look and feel a little clunky. App control, like the cheaper SVS SB-3000, would be a better choice. Its absence is also puzzling, since KEF uses an app to control its flagship wireless speakers. However, if you want to go deeper, this is the place to be.
We’ve tested dozens of subwoofers at The Master Switch, and while it’s rare to find one that doesn’t work well with music, we think the RSL Speedwoofer 10S is the best we’ve heard. The solid, heavy sound quality lends itself to music, with clear and authentic bass that brings out the details in drums, toms and bass guitar. Cinema isn’t far behind, but if that’s where you plan to use your subwoofer the most, we recommend going for something like the BIC America F12, which is actually a bit cheaper. However, if you plan to use your sub tracks, then RSL is definitely the best choice. You can also make it wireless with an optional $50 module, making it a worthy competitor to the expensive Sonos Sub.
Aside from the slightly poor performance with movies, there’s little we don’t like about the RSL Speedwoofer 10S. We would argue that the appearance is not particularly exciting; We do not have a high bar for subwoofers in this matter, we would like to be known a little, such as Found on top of Q Acoustics Q B12. Look beyond that, however, and you’ll find another winning premium sub for music.
