Find The Best Tcl Dolby Atmos Soundbars
Our panelists voted Samsung’s HW-Q900A as the best sound system, even before learning that it’s a simple two-piece unit consisting of a sound bar and a subwoofer. The HW-Q900A can reproduce the more immersive Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats, and has plenty of connectivity and control features, including two HDMI inputs, an HDMI eARC connection to deliver higher quality audio from your television. – Amazon Alexa voice control and wireless audio streaming via Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth. The sound bar includes front speakers, up-firing speakers and side-firing speakers to create room-filling sound for music and movies, while the relatively compact 8-inch wireless subwoofer delivers deep bass, plenty of punch and satisfaction. shaking the sofa. (Optional surround sound speakers are available.) The HW-Q900A also has an effective and useful adaptive system that eliminates the need to change sound modes based on the type of content (such as movies, music or sports). One advantage is that the screen sits on top, making it harder to see visual cues when sitting, but our panelists didn’t mind that too much.
With dedicated surround speakers and a subwoofer, Elevate delivers a dynamic and immersive audio experience, but vocals aren’t as clear as our top picks.
The Vizio Elevate is the best sound bar for those who want a complete system that includes a subwoofer and separate rear speakers. The bar has a pair of motorized front speakers that automatically pop up when playing Dolby Atmos and DTS:X content to bounce sound effects off the ceiling, and also includes rear speakers with built-in up-firing speakers. The results are some of the most immersive sound we’ve heard from a soundtrack, but our panel thought voices were clearer through our top picks, and appreciated the clarity of dialogue over the sonic envelope. The 8-inch wireless woofer has impressive low-bass output, although it lacks much upper bass. The Elevate is packed with great features, including two HDMI inputs, Bluetooth and Chromecast music streaming (but not AirPlay 2), multiple audio controls, and a dedicated signal-sensitive input that lets you connect an Amazon Echo Dot to the sound bar to operate as a smart speaker.
The JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass plays loud, delivers plenty of bass, and sounds incredibly clear with little adjustment required (or offered).
Best Soundbars 2020
Many sound bars under $300 sound good, but the JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass sounds good. It has the clearest voice reproduction we’ve heard in a budget soundbar, and its relatively large woofer delivers bigger and deeper bass than most models we’ve tried in this price range. Although it’s just a 2.1-channel soundbar with no optional surround speakers, it produces great, immersive sound with a movie soundtrack. With HDMI ARC, one HDMI input, one optical digital audio input and built-in Bluetooth, it offers a wide range of connectivity for the price. Its simple remote offers far fewer adjustments than most competitors, and it doesn’t offer dedicated audio modes, but we don’t think that’s necessary for this option.
Most low- and mid-range soundbars that support Dolby Atmos and/or DTS:X use digital audio processing to simulate a more immersive surround sound experience, but the Vizio M512a-H6 is the real deal: sound bar with pop up speakers. For Atmos and DTS:X, as well as separate front, center and right speakers. It also includes dedicated surround sound speakers that connect (via cables) to a wireless subwoofer. The M512a-H6 offers plenty of connections, including HDMI eARC and one additional HDMI input; USB and optical digital audio inputs; and two analog inputs, one of which has signal detection that allows the soundbar to work just like a smart speaker when connected to an Amazon Echo Dot. Multiple adjustments allow for fine-tuning.
I have been reviewing audio equipment professionally since 1990, having worked as an editor or writer for SoundStage, Sound & Vision, Home Theater Review, Home Theater Magazine, and many other publications. During this time I have carried out and published more blind tests of audio products than any other journalist in the world and am a recognized expert in audio measurement. I have also worked as a consultant in the design and tuning of sound bars for many companies (mainly OEM/ODM companies supplying products to well-known brands) and I have evaluated and measured more than 120 sound bars in final form or form prototype.
Our Summer 2021 Audition panel included LeRena Major, music industry insider and voting member of the Recording Academy (parent organization of the Grammy Awards), and Dan Gonda, who plays woodwinds in various jazz ensembles and big bands. California and is a certified Avid Pro Tools engineer (and my colleague in the jazz group Tonic Trio). Both of them participated in at least half a dozen auditions that I conducted.

If you want better sound than you can get from your TV’s built-in speakers, but don’t want to put together separate components (such as an AV or stereo receiver and speaker package), a sound bar is the way to go. go Separate components almost always give you better performance for your dollar, but they also take up more space and require additional cables and are more difficult to use. Best Soundbar 2022: Reviews & Buying Advice
Fortunately, since the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccines, we have been able to continue our trademark covert audio tests with a hearing panel. Masking the identity and configurations of audio products is essential; studies have shown that listening results can be significantly distorted when listeners know the identity of the products.
Before we did any tests with outside listeners, I spent at least three days randomly using each soundtrack, watching TV shows, at least one action movie, some favorite movies, and listening to a variety of music. During these tests, I tried different audio modes, tested different connection options, and got a general overview of how the soundbars work and operate. I then put each soundtrack to a formal test by playing Dolby Atmos scenes from Blu-ray discs
With audiophile selections like Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” streaming over Wi-Fi where possible or via Bluetooth in other ways. I also compared the soundtracks to the options we already have. After this round, I selected eight models that I thought had the best chance of winning over our panel.
For our panels, I hid the identity of the soundtracks behind a thin black cloth. I didn’t tell them anything about the sound bars, although they could see that some of the sound bars used special surround speakers mounted on the 59-inch bookshelves behind them. I set the volume of each audio track to the same playback level using a sound pressure level meter and a noise shaping tone taken from a Dolby Digital receiver. I then played the same films and music selections that I used in my test, as well as a piece of music of their choice.
Best Soundbars For Bass Music
For soundbars that offer dedicated audio modes, I generally used the mode for the type of content I was listening to (like “movies” or “music”), but I also experimented with all the other modes was available.
