Beats Pill Bluetooth Speaker Box (box Empty And Manual Only). No Speaker

The Beats Pill+ is a small, portable Bluetooth speaker. It has a solid build, although it doesn’t have the advertised dust or water resistance rating. Its sound profile is noisy, and an overloaded treble range can make high frequencies bright or piercing. However, it can play stereo content without converting to mono. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with voice assistants.

The Beats Pill+ is moderate for music. Its lush sound profile can drown out vocals and lead instruments, while overdriven treble makes high frequencies bright or piercing. It also struggles to reproduce rumbling low bass, which is disappointing for fans of bass-heavy genres like EDM. Unfortunately, there’s no EQ to let you adjust its sound profile. Fortunately, this speaker can reproduce stereo content without converting to mono, so you feel immersed in your music.

Beats Pill+ is worse for watching videos and movies. It has an over-emphasized treble range, so the dialogue sounds harsh or shrill. It also lacks low bass, so you don’t experience the deep punch and rumble of action-packed movie scenes. Fortunately, its Bluetooth latency is low with iOS and Android devices, making it perfect for watching videos. However, some applications compensate for latency differently, so user experience may vary.

Beats Pill+ is perfect for playing podcasts. You can connect up to two devices at the same time, which is useful if you want to frequently switch audio sources between your phone and laptop. It’s also quite portable, with a battery life of just under eight hours. Unfortunately, its noisy sound profile can muddy vocals and dialogue, while overdriven treble can make sibilants shrill or harsh.

Although the battery lasts just under eight hours, it’s still enough to use outdoors for most of the day. Unfortunately, it’s not very loud and doesn’t have the advertised water or dust resistance ratings, which we’re not currently testing.

The JBL Flip 5 is a better speaker than the Beats Pill+. The JBL is a better built speaker with an IPX7 water resistance rating. It also has a more balanced sound profile. However, the Beats can play stereo content, and it has lower latency over Bluetooth with iOS devices, making it more suitable for watching videos. Additionally, some applications compensate for latency differently.

Review: Beats By Dr. Dre Pill Bluetooth Speaker

The JBL Charge 5 Beats is a better speaker than the Pill+ overall. The JBL offers a better balanced sound profile that can produce more extended low bass than the Beats. It’s better built and has a longer battery life, although battery performance may depend on your usage and your experience may vary. Regardless, Beats can play stereo content without converting to mono, which is more immersive.

The Beats Pill+ is a slightly better speaker than the JBL Charge 4. Bitscan reproduces stereo content unlike JBL. However, the JBL is a better built speaker with a longer battery life, lasting over thirteen hours on a single charge. It also has slightly less compression than Beats at maximum volume.

The Bose SoundLink Revolve is a better speaker than the Beats Pill+. Bose has voice assistant support, and although it relies on your smartphone’s voice assistant, it can understand you even if you’re far away. The Bose also has a more balanced sound profile, making it more suitable for playing most audio content. However, Beats can play stereo content without converting to mono.

JBL Xtreme 2 Beats is a better speaker than Pill+. JBL has voice assistant support, although it depends on your smartphone’s voice assistant. It’s also a better built speaker with an IPX7 rating for water resistance, though we don’t currently test for this. Thanks to a better balanced sound profile, vocals and lead instruments are reproduced more clearly. However, Beats has a stronger upper bass, which may please some fans of bass-heavy genres like EDM.

Apple’s Discontinued Beats Pill+ Speaker Returning With Limited Edition Model

The Beats Pill+ is a small speaker with a pill-shaped design. It’s intended to be placed horizontally, with speakers on the front and back, each covered by a metal grill. It is wrapped in a rubber coating and comes in three different color variants. The company logo on the top lights up when the speaker is in use.

This speaker is extremely portable. It is small and light, so you can easily carry it with one hand. Since it is battery powered, you can use it outside without having to worry about plugging it in.

The Beats Pill Plus has a satisfactory build quality. It looks solid with metal grills on each side of the speaker. Most speakers are wrapped in a rubber coating, which can easily scratch over time. Fortunately, rubber does not attract fingerprints easily. There is also a back cover for the speaker ports. It does not have an advertised rating for water, shock or dust resistance and we do not currently test for this. If you want a speaker that you can use outdoors more comfortably, consider the Bose SoundLink Color II, which is rated IPX4 for water resistance.

Beats Pill+ has very good controls. Located on top of the speaker, the buttons are clickable and easy to press. There is a separate volume button and a power button, which you can press briefly to see the battery level along with five lights. When the battery level drops below 10%, the fuel indicator light flashes red. You can press the multi-function button ‘b’ once to play/pause the sound, twice to advance the track and thrice to go back to the previous track. The ‘b’ button also allows you to answer/end calls. It makes a sound when it is on/off or when it is connected to a device via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, there is no audio or visual volume indicator.

Beats Pill+ has low frequency response accuracy. Its sound profile is overall noisy, with an over-emphasized high-end that can make high frequencies bright and punchy. Its midrange is also not well balanced, so vocals and lead instruments cannot be reproduced clearly. Although it struggles to produce low bass, the extra boost in high bass may please fans of bass-heavy music like hip-hop or EDM. Unfortunately, there’s no EQ to let you tweak its sound.

The Beats Pill speaker has a satisfactory soundstage performance. It can play stereo content, but its directivity is not good. As a result, its soundstage is perceived as narrow rather than open and spacious.

Beats Pill Plus has acceptable mobility. It doesn’t sound very loud, and there are some compression artifacts at maximum volume, so it may not be suitable for playing in large or crowded rooms.

This speaker has decent battery performance. Although advertised as lasting twelve hours, it lasted just under eight hours in our tests. Additionally, battery life may vary based on usage, so user experience may vary. Fortunately, it has a power-saving function, which turns off after a while without making a sound. The speaker charges using a Lightning cable and takes just under three hours to charge from a dead battery.

Beats Pill+ Review

The Beats Pill+ app is good. It is compatible with iOS and Android devices and allows you to connect two speakers to create a stereo pair. You can also connect multiple Beats Pill+ speakers to play the same sound in a larger space. Unfortunately, it lacks EQ, so you can’t adjust the speaker’s sound profile.

This speaker has an AUX port, which you can use to connect your smartphone to the speaker to play audio. There’s also a USB-A port, which lets you charge other devices using the speaker’s battery.

This speaker has amazing Bluetooth connectivity. You can connect up to two devices at the same time, which is useful if you want to quickly switch audio sources between your laptop and smartphone. Its latency is low enough to be suitable for watching videos over Bluetooth with iOS and Android devices, although some apps compensate for latency differently. Its Bluetooth range is excellent, so the speaker can receive audio input even when far away from the paired device.
