If you want to connect a speaker to your Echo Dot, you’ll need a standard 3.5mm audio cable (opens in a new window) with male connectors on both ends. Connect one end of your audio cable to the Aux In connection on your speaker and the other end to the Dots Aux Out connection, next to the power cable connection. Power up your speaker, and the next time you ask Alexa to play music, it’ll play the sound from your Echo Dot.
Don’t want to mess around with cables? You can stream audio from your Dot to a Bluetooth speaker instead. Amazon certifies compatible speakers with the Works with Alexa (opens in new window) label, so you know which devices you should buy. Once you have a Bluetooth speaker, make sure it is in pairing mode
Launch the Alexa app and open Devices > Echo and Alexa. Tap the name of the Alexa device you want to connect to your speaker. Select Connect a device under the Bluetooth connection section. The Alexa app will search for nearby Bluetooth devices to pair with your Echo Dot. Tap your speaker name when it pops up.

Once the pairing is successful, the speaker will appear in the Alexa app as a Bluetooth connection for that Echo device. Alexa also announced successful pairings. You can now ask Alexa to play music and perform other tasks, and the sound will be piped through your Bluetooth speaker.
If you want to disconnect the speaker, tap the speaker’s name in the Alexa app and tap Disconnect. You can say “Alexa, hang up.” Alexa will tell you that your Echo Dot is now disconnected from your speaker. To reconnect, say “Alexa, connect.” Alexa pairs your Echo Dot with the last connected Bluetooth device.
You can permanently remove the entry for your speaker by tapping the speaker’s name in the Alexa app and selecting Forget Device. Then you have to go through the re-pairing process to reconnect it.
