Roku is doing the obvious: creating a surround sound system that combines the company’s smart soundbar, subwoofer, and Roku TV wireless speakers for a more immersive sound experience. A software update due in February will allow owners of Roku-branded soundbars to add wireless speakers, previously only compatible with Roku TVs, and a subwoofer. Roku uses Dolby Audio (Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus), which is widely supported on Disney+, the Apple TV app, Netflix, and other streaming apps.

You will be dealing with two Roku remotes and two Roku interfaces. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to combine two sets of Roku TV speakers to create surround sound: a soundbar is required.

This solution is clearly intended for many people who have TVs from other brands such as Samsung, Vizio, LG, Sony and others. Roku believes that this can greatly simplify home theater for these consumers.
