Place these surround speakers on top of a table, use speaker stands or mount them on a wall with a convenient 1/4-20″. Then use the specially designed and pre-paired USB transmitter that mounts and hides behind the wooden end on the sound bar cap to sync your speakers and the sound bar. Easy Peasy I hate wires! I remember a time years ago when my wife was standing there yelling at me as I tore out the walls to bury the cables, and even better , I drilled holes in the hardwood to place the speakers around. Until this point, I actually never considered the ceiling dropping to the lower part of that house to be a benefit…but it is. It’s fun to imagine the miles of cables in that drop ceiling that can be hunted everywhere…all to realize the hidden wired beauty. That was it. This is our new home.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s weird…but…don’t be hiding the wires in this room anytime soon without a lot of work on your hands. The lower level…hard ceiling. So we suffered for three years with a 3.1 home theater, exploring every possible option to create a 5.1 system with at least a wireless environment. It can’t be. From everything I’ve read, there is no affordable wireless speaker system available that can work effectively in wireless environments.

I checked the Denon Heos because my receiver was apparently set up for that…but it wasn’t. Nothing without spending thousands of dollars. At least nothing until we discovered the Platin Monaco 5.1 Wireless Cinema Sound System with SoundSend Wireless Audio Transmitter. Now… EVERY speaker is wireless, including our subwoofer. No speaker wires…period.

Before we get into the specifics, let’s talk about that word on top of the packaging in this shot, WiSA. It’s a mark of the Wireless Speaker and Audio Association and their bread and butter is establishing and maintaining standards for wireless speakers and audio devices. These standards apply to streaming up to eight audio channels wirelessly. This audio is transmitted over 24 RF channels on pre-reserved radar and weather channels between the 5.1-5.8GHz bands, meaning there won’t be any interference with your home Wi-Fi. The Monaco 5.1 system does not connect to your home Wi-Fi at all.

Edifier E255 5.1 Surround Speakers

The signal is sent to all speakers uncompressed and up to 24-bit 48/96kHz in double CD quality, and all speakers are guaranteed to match within one microsecond without being detected. Transmitter-to-speaker latency is 5.2ms which is 1/10th the latency of Bluetooth with a maximum wireless distance from the SoundSend transmitter to the speaker of 9 meters or 30 feet. In plain English, this means that voice-to-lip sync for home theater is dead. on and there is no delay in changing channels or turning the system on or off.

That said, the WiSA Platin Monaco home theater isn’t a multi-room or whole-house system like we’ve seen from Denon, Sonos and other companies, nor does it stream via Bluetooth, unless of course your TV has that feature. The Platinum Monaco 5.1 Wireless Cinema Sound System is WiSA certified. If you haven’t heard of WiSA, that’s to be expected as it’s not as established as BT or Wi-Fi. Its members include some of the world’s leading audio manufacturers, Klipsch, Bang and Olufsen, Harman, Polk, JBL, Buchardt and Boston Acoustics to name a few, and we fully expect WiSA certification to be the home theater standard at some point. Currently, we can confirm that the 2021 LG OLED and NANOCELL TVs are “WiSA Ready”, which means that if you plug in a WiSA USB transmitter, a sub-menu in the TV will help you integrate wireless speakers.

Returning to our sample Platin Monaco 5.1 Wireless Cinema Sound System, this delivered package weighs 42.5 pounds and includes 4 satellite speakers, a center speaker, a subwoofer, six power cables, an HDMI cable, and a SoundSend wireless audio transmitter with microUSB to enable . This system is “Tuned by THX”, meaning the system has been carefully tuned and calibrated by THX engineers to maximize the performance of the Monaco system. It’s completely wireless, but each speaker, subwoofer, and SoundSend transmitter must be within 6 feet of an outlet, as each is independently powered.

Setting up Monaco is very easy. Plug the 5 speakers and the subwoofer into the power sockets. Looking at the back of each speaker, you’ll find a sticker indicating which position the speaker is preset to (FL / FR / C / SL / SR). After connecting your TV ARC/eARC to your audio receiver, unplug it and plug it into the SoundSend audio transmitter, plug in SoundSend and everything should start right up. It literally took longer to unpack the system than it did to boot. From there, download the SoundSend app and your system is ready.

If you don’t have the TV on anything, you’ll probably need to go into your menu and switch the TV from routing the sound to its internal speakers to the SoundSend audio transmitter. In the case of my Samsung, the option to route sound via ARC is listed as “Receiver”. There may be one or two more adjustments over your choice of Dolby or ARC / eARC / CEC / Anytime + to ensure that sound travels from the TV to the SoundSend transmitter via HDMI.

This is the SoundSend wireless home theater audio receiver. It has an HDMI port for connecting HDMI ARC/eARC from your TV. It has an optical TOSLINK connector that can be used by any device and makes this product IDEAL for the home PC gamer. Did we mention that the XBox One, One S, One X and Series X are compatible with SoundSend? It also has a microUSB power port, a button on the top that you press when the system won’t connect from sleep, and an LED on the front that flashes green when it’s looking for speaker connections and turns white when connected.

Simply put, your audio/video signal is sent from the TV via ARC/eARC via an HDMI cable and the sound is sent wirelessly from the “back” to your subwoofer and speakers. It can decode Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD (via TOSLINK) and Dolby Atmos and transmit up to eight channels of audio, automatically recognizing audio configurations from 2.0 to 7.1 to 5.1.2 ATMOS.

To be perfectly clear, the SoundSend receiver is not connected to your stereo receiver in any way. This has proven to be a point of concern for some as the only speakers that can be used with WiSA systems are WiSA certified speakers. We would like to see it integrated into professional receivers, but, at least for now, it is only compatible with smart TVs that have an ARC / eARC function or a TOSLINK port. What’s great is that it allows for great compatibility, and our TV is a 2014 Samsung H6350 1080p 75-inch Smart TV that connects instantly. The only requirement for this system is that you have a smart TV with at least ARC.

The ideal of WiSA is that with the integration of the WiSA transmitter, the consumer can now have a wireless home theater with professional sound and a good price, without having to invest heavily in a receiver and home speakers. It also leaves us with a long distance at the end of days which is something that is very understandable.
