The Sony SRS-KSB43 is a well-built portable speaker that can be used horizontally or vertically. It has adaptive lighting and a dust and water resistance rating of IP67, certifying that it is completely dustproof and can be submerged in water up to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes. Like many of the Sony speakers we’ve tested, this one supports ClearAudio+ technology, which is advertised to adapt the speaker’s sound field to your audio. Unfortunately, even with the activated EXTRA BASS and Sony ClearAudio+ functions, the KSB43 has an uneven sound profile that makes it difficult to reproduce powerful low tones. Its soundstage is uneven and narrow, too. However, the Sony Music Center companion app offers a graphic equalizer that you can use to adjust the sound to your liking.
Sony KSB43 is fair for music. It has a balanced midrange that provides a clear and present sound for vocals and lead instruments in the mix. However, an underemphasized treble can make higher frequencies sound dull or muffled. It also has trouble reproducing bass even with the EXTRA BASS preset on. Fortunately, you have the ability to adjust its sound to your liking using the graphic equalizer in the Sony Music Center app. Although it gets loud, its soundstage is strained and there is some compression when played at maximum volume.
The Sony KSB43 is a mid-range for video and movies. Even with the EXTRA BASS preset on, it struggles to produce low bass, so you don’t feel the deep punch in action scenes. Its soundscape is narrow and directional, which doesn’t allow for a very immersive listening experience. Fortunately, its latency with iOS and Android devices via Bluetooth is low, so your audio should sync with the images you see. However, some apps compensate lag differently and your experience may vary.
The Sony KSB43 is suitable for podcasts. Its balanced mids can clearly reproduce vocals, although the under-emphasis of the treble range can make higher-frequency sounds a bit dull and muffled. You can adjust its sound profile using the equalizer in the Sony Music Center app. It gets pretty loud, but unfortunately there are some compression artifacts when you play it at full volume.

The Sony KSB43 doesn’t have built-in voice assistant capabilities, so it just uses the system on your paired smartphone. As part of our methodology, we use recorded voice commands to test speakers. However, the speaker did not respond to some of these commands, even in the absence of ambient noise. Although it responded to normal speech, this was not part of our testing process.

The Sony SRS-KSG300 is a slightly better speaker than the Sony SRS-KSB43, though not by much. The sound profile of the KSG300 is slightly more balanced and has a wider soundscape. It also gets a bit louder. The KSB43’s battery life lasted almost an hour longer in our tests, although this varies depending on the selected volume levels and settings. Overall, the differences between the two speakers are pretty small, so unless you’re very particular about the sound of your speaker, the KSB43 offers similar performance at a more affordable price.
