The OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA is a budget-friendly Bluetooth speaker and an upgraded version of the OontZ Angle 3. With this generation, OontZ has added voice assistant support for Google Assistant or Siri on your smartphone and increased the water resistance to IPX7. It also has a companion app with bass and treble sliders and a long battery life of over 20 hours. However, it really struggles to reproduce low bass, so your sound lacks thump and rumble. It doesn’t sound too loud either, although there aren’t many compression artifacts at maximum volume.

The OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA is disappointing for music. While its neutral midrange ensures that vocals and leads are present and clear in your mixes, its sound profile is almost entirely devoid of low bass. Although it can play stereo content, its sound image is a bit patchy and its directivity is limited, so your sound may not be clear from all directions. There are bass and treble sliders on the back so you can customize the sound. While it can’t be too loud, there aren’t many compression artifacts at maximum volume, so your audio will sound clean and clear at maximum volume.

OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA is bad for movies. It really struggles with low bass reproduction, so the sound effects of your favorite movies don’t come through. Although it can play stereo content, its directionality is limited, so your sound may not be clear and immersive from all directions. It also has high latency on Android, which can disrupt your experience when streaming video. This means that while it can’t be too loud, there isn’t a lot of compression at maximum volume. The speaker is portable thanks to its battery-powered Bluetooth design and has a balanced midrange, so audio-focused content is very clear and accurate. However, the drop in the treble range can make the speech sound a bit dark and muffled. You cannot connect it to more than one device at a time or connect multiple devices for multi-room use.

As part of our methodology, we use recorded voice commands to test speakers. The speaker did not respond to some of these commands even in the absence of ambient noise. Although it responds to a normal spoken voice, it is not part of our testing process.

OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA is suitable for outdoor use. It’s portable, has a long battery life, and is IPX7 rated for water resistance, although we’re not currently testing it. While it’s not too loud, there aren’t many compression artifacts at maximum volume, so your audio should be relatively clear and clean. Unfortunately, the speaker lacks low bass, so there’s no rumble and rumble in genres like EDM and hip-hop. The companion app has bass and treble sliders to help you adjust that sound.

The OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA has excellent controls. They are located on the triangular side of the speaker and are easy to press. You can adjust the speaker volume, play or mute the sound, and fast forward or rewind the track. The Bluetooth button allows you to pair devices and accept, end or reject incoming calls. The power button allows you to activate voice assistant support when paired, and you can long press the play button for dual mode if you have another device and want to use it as a stereo pair. In addition to the buttons, there is also a light indicator to let you know your current input and battery life.

OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA frequency response accuracy is poor. When placed horizontally, it really struggles to reproduce low bass, so genres like EDM and hip-hop lack noticeable thump and rumble. That said, the midrange is fairly neutral, so audio-centric content like podcasts or audiobooks sound clear and accurate, albeit a bit dark and off-screen. Luckily, they have bass and treble sliders so you can adjust them to your liking.

OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA has a decent sound space. While this speaker can play stereo content without distortion, its driver is small and narrow, so sound may not be clear from all angles. OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA has satisfactory dynamic performance. It doesn’t sound as loud as the OontZ Angle 3, but compression artifacts are minimal, so your audio should be pretty clean even at high volumes.

The battery performance of the OontZ Angle 3 ULTRA is excellent. It lasts over 20 hours on a single charge, which is roughly equivalent to the advertised battery life. That said, its advertised charge time is seven hours, and while we measured it slightly less, it’s still a lot longer than the OontZ Angle 3. However, battery life may vary, so your experience may vary. Plus, it shuts off after 30 minutes of no sound to save battery life.
