Jbl Link Portable Wi Fi Speaker With Google Assistant
At $ 119.95, Link Music is JBL’s smallest and most affordable smart speaker. With support for AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, Chromecast, and Google Assistant voice commands, there’s no shortage of features. In terms of sound, we can expect surprisingly high volume for its size, with rich bass and a good balance between bass and treble. However, this is ultimately a mono speaker with a single driver, so if you’re looking for powerful bass, you’ll have to spend a little more.
Measuring 5.3 x 4.4 inches (HW), the Link Music cylindrical weighs 1.6 pounds and is available in light gray or dark gray models. The speaker outer panel is covered in a fabric mesh, while the top panel houses pinhole microphones for Google Assistant control, plus / minus buttons for volume control, and a central Google Assistant button for playback and alarms / timers. Press and hold the button for two seconds to activate the Google Assistant if you don’t want to use voice commands.

On the back of the speaker is a Bluetooth pairing button, a microphone mute button (amber LEDs appear behind the front fabric grille when the microphone is muted) and a connector for the included power cable. The bottom of the speaker has a rubber coating that stabilizes the speaker on flat surfaces.

Setting up Link Music requires the Google Home app to use the Google Assistant. In addition to entering the Wi-Fi password, the app handles almost everything else for you, so you’re ready to stream audio or control the Google Assistant with hands-free voice commands. If Link Music needs a software update, the Google Home app will install it automatically.

Fixing Jbl Link Portable Not Charging Problem
We have found that the voice control functions work quite well. The microphones picked up our voice commands even when the music was relatively loud and there was never a misfire.
Behind the grid, Link Music uses a single 20-watt driver that provides a frequency response of 60Hz to 20kHz. It is compatible with Bluetooth 4.2 and works on 802.11a / b / g / n / ac wireless networks.
On tracks with intense sub-bass content, such as Knife’s “Silent Shout”, the speaker delivers commendable low-frequency response for its size and price. The hits are robust and there is no distortion at maximum volume, although at maximum volume the DSP (digital signal processing) significantly thins the bass.
Bill Callahan’s “Drover”, which has much shallower bass in the mix, gives a better feel of Link Music’s overall soundscape. On this track, the drums sound unnaturally through the bass-forward speakers, but through Link Music’s mono driver, the drums sound more subdued. Instead, Callahan’s baritone voice gets most of the bass presence – they sound even richer than usual, and if there wasn’t a decent mid-high presence here too, the mix would risk sounding muddled. Acoustic drums and higher register percussion have enough mid-high and high frequency presence to keep the mix balanced, but interestingly, even in a speaker of this size, it’s a low note. Link Music is unable to reproduce very deep bass, so the focus is on moderate bass and low-mid frequencies and are pushed forward more than the highs.

For its size and price, JBL Link Music delivers a palpable bass rumble with enough treble balance to make things sound full and rich without getting muddy or lacking in detail. A speaker in your kitchen or office probably packs more firepower than you’d expect from its humble chassis. At $ 120, it’s solid value, although the Amazon Echo (3rd generation) can be bought for less. And if you want a little more bass power and depth in a smart speaker, the $ 130 Sonos One (Gen 2) and $ 200 Amazon Echo Studio are viable alternatives.
