This subwoofer’s predecessor, the JBL Bar 5.1 [see HCC #283], combines a three-channel speaker with a rear subwoofer and subwoofer for a 5.1 surround sound experience. JBL’s new and confusingly named Bar 5.1 surrounds without other surround boxes, but still claims 5.1 performance…

Styling is good and builds strong character. Ignore the “Around” appeal of this soundtrack, because even though it tries, it doesn’t come close to the logic of its predecessor, but you’ll notice it a lot. The 10″ driver gives this system a good low end, it avoids bad sound traps and other isolated sound areas. It adds depth to everything and the LFE effect drives home the fun.
You have to adjust the bass level, but it’s not difficult. My advice is don’t worry about Low as it lowers the output of sub and relative, and choose Mid or High depending.
