This manual applies to any ION audio amplifier that has a sealed, rechargeable lead-acid battery.
To simplify operation, most of our amplifiers with rechargeable lead-acid batteries have a removable panel for easy access to the battery compartment. In this article, we’ll show you where to get a compatible battery for your ION portable speaker, how to install it, and how to help maximize battery life.

Rechargeable lead-acid batteries are the same type used in cars. As with your car battery, the way you use that battery has a big impact on its lifespan.
For example, if you forget to turn off your car lights and drain the battery, your jump start may work multiple times. But after several complete discharges, even a jump will not help, and the battery will have to be replaced. With proper use and care, a lead-acid battery can last for years.
In general, leaving the battery at a low level or without a charge for an extended period of time will shorten the battery life and/or reduce the battery’s ability to store charge.

Signs of low battery life are often pretty obvious, but here’s an easy test to see if your battery is no longer holding a charge:
On your battery you will see two slits sticking out from the top that connect to wires inside the speaker. These are called “stations”. There are two terminal connection capabilities that can come with an airtight, rechargeable 12V lead-acid battery: F1 and F2.
The vast majority of sealed lead acid batteries found in ION Audio products require an F2 type terminal. It is slightly larger than the F1 terminal type.
If you buy a battery with slimmer F1 battery terminals, it can still be used as long as all other specifications of the battery are correct. To connect the battery, you will simply need the “F1 to F2 Step Up Adapters”, which are usually available from the same place where the battery was purchased. These adapters slide over the slimmer F1 terminals and widen them a bit, allowing the F2 terminal cables to connect properly.

Before starting this process, disconnect all power cables, audio cables and accessories. Make sure the product is completely disconnected from any electrical power sockets.
