Google Home Max Premium Wifi Smart Speaker

Google Home Max Premium Wifi Smart Speaker – Smart speakers like the Amazon Echo and Google Home have proven to be useful — but not very good. Sure, they’re easily repairable and better than most cheap Bluetooth speakers, but they don’t compare to options like the entire Sonos line, let alone decent bookshelf speakers like the Audioengine A5+. However, that is slowly changing: the Sonos One speaker with Alexa works well and is affordable, while the upcoming Apple HomePod looked very good in the brief demo we saw earlier this year.

Google’s Home Max is the company’s first attempt to break into the HiFi audio space – it does everything that small home speakers do, but with bigger, bigger speakers. Of course, this higher quality comes at a significant price. At $399, the Home Max is more comparable with high-quality, dedicated speakers. But Home Max offers a unique combination of simplicity, high-quality sound and voice activation, courtesy of Google Assistant.

The Google Home Max is a heavy-duty speaker; It’s certainly more visible than the standard Home line or Amazon’s Echo line. Still, it’s a very interesting and interesting machine. Its soft corners and fabric-covered front are reminiscent of Google’s small Home Mini and make it a little more “friendly” than the average speaker. It’s similar in size to the Sonos Play:5 and similarly built.

Google says it designed the fabric in advance to be realistic and tested several dozen options before choosing a woven pattern. I’ve never heard a speaker without a design in the way so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it doesn’t seem to hinder the sound in any way.

There isn’t much about Home Max that is visually appealing. On the back, you’ll find a mic-mute button, a power connector, a USB-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Not sure what the USB-C port is for other than charging your smartphone (update! Google says you can add a USB-C ethernet adapter for faster internet). But the 3.5mm jack is useful for connecting a variety of audio devices, from connecting directly to a tablet or smartphone (not the Pixel 2 or the new iPhones!) I have to use an RCA converter- to-3.5mm I have around. It would be nice if the Home Max had RCA ports, as most traditional home audio products use them, but most users will choose Spotify.

The top of the speaker also includes a slim touchscreen control panel; There is a line to help guide you. Touching the center line pauses or resumes the music, while swiping left or right increases or decreases the volume. I wish these controls included a way to quickly send songs, but the good news is that Google may actually add this feature with a software update.

What’s inside is more interesting. Google has packed two 18mm tweeters and two 4.5-inch woofers, good for producing high volume and bass. There are also six remote microphones that did a good job of recognizing my voice when talking to the Home Max, even when the music was loud.

Google Home Tips Every Music Lover Should Know

The final note is hidden under the front cover. There you will find four LED lights, just like the ones on the Mini Mini. They light up in response to the command “Ok Google” and turn orange and stay off when the microphone is turned off. Finally, they provide a visual indication of the volume level when you adjust it in the upper ring tone range. You won’t see the lights very often, but they do a good job of providing visual cues when you need them.

The Home Max setup is the same as other Google speakers. Once connected, simply open the Home app on your iOS or Android device and follow a few instructions to connect the speaker to your Wi-Fi network. If this is the first time you’re setting up your home device, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your Google account and train the speaker to recognize your voice. You can also add more users later, have them train the speaker; That way, it can differentiate between you and your significant other when you’re looking for calendar details or to play a playlist.

Once set up, Home Max does everything its smaller friends can do. Google Assistant features are well established at this point. Check out our original Google Home review and our Home Mini review for more details, but suffice it to say it can answer questions and search, make voice calls, get information like reminders and calendar items from your Google account, manage devices smart home and of course playing music.

Good music streaming is Home Max’s reason for being, and it offers a lot. Once you’ve connected compatible music services (including Spotify, Pandora, and Google Play Music), just ask Google Assistant to play any song or album that pops into your head. Assistant is also smart enough to search your library for playlists or channels you’ve saved. I managed to tell him to list the weekly Discoveries from Spotify or from different channels on Google Music.

Google Assistant doesn’t support as many music services as Sonos, but the good news is that any app that works with Google Cast can be used as a remote to send music directly to the speaker. It also supports Bluetooth, which isn’t that great, but it’s a good feature if you can’t give up Apple Music.

Adequate music service, though. The big question is: How good is the sound quality? In a word, good. It’s the best sounding smart speaker on the market by a wide margin. Its size and overall performance remind me of the Sonos Play: 5 – Max not as big, but it’s also $100 cheaper and includes built-in voice assistant features. The bass response is very good, the treble is clear without sounding too loud,

Great. Turning the volume up above 60% shows the real experience of the speaker. Where a small smart speaker like the Sonos One might start to struggle, the Max doesn’t distort or lose any bass.

This is doubly true when combining two Home Max speakers in a stereo. By itself, the speaker comes out in stereo when it’s lying down or mono when it’s standing up, but both speakers boost the sound level considerably. It also makes things louder, which is unnecessary (at least for my needs). The speaker design also highlights just how good the Home Max mic is. It took the command phrase “OK Google”, no matter the size of the objects, something that the Alexa-enabled Sonos One had a lot of trouble with.

The Max house can have a good volume, but it is interesting even in small models. It’s not often that I hear music on these stereo speakers, which are set up so that I can get a true stereo effect. It even works with my turntable, although the speakers have to take data from the speakers and then split and broadcast the channels wirelessly. There was a slight delay between when I dropped the needle and the music started, but that didn’t matter because the speakers were in sync without any issues.

Google has supported multi-room audio for a few years now and it works fine on Home Max without. You can connect multiple Google Home devices together; Chromecast also works with multi-room audio. Finally, if you have multiple Google Home speakers, you can talk to one to control others on the network. For example, you can say “Turn down the volume on your room speakers” to any home device and it will know what you’re talking about. Home Max offers professional music, especially when in stereo mode. Of course, for $800, there’s no excuse for anything less.

One final note about audio: Google doesn’t let users adjust their speakers around the room like Sonos does with its Trueplay technology. But the company has built-in machine learning-assisted algorithms that automatically change the equipment to the most suitable where you place Home Max. Google calls this Smart Sound, and the first feature to join this category is Room EQ. This is especially true for bass output – many people place their speakers in corners or on walls, which usually boosts the bass. The EQ room adjusts this to balance things out. Everything is done automatically and the speaker adjusts itself every time it is moved. There’s no way to turn it on or off, so I can’t say much about the sound effects, unfortunately. But the bottom line is that the speaker is good.

Google’s Home Max is a bit of a mystery right now. The Sonos One is a smart music speaker, but it’s smaller. Its performance is impressive for its size (and the $200 price tag), and inside
