When I was a child, every Saturday my parents cook and invite the rest of them (and some friends). Almost everyone showed up week after week – my aunts and uncles, my cousins, people my parents were friends with over the years, and lots of kids I was friends with in the neighborhood. Everyone knew that in the summer, my house was the place to be on weekends. We would eat, play croquet, volleyball, badminton and basketball until dark. These cookouts are some of my best childhood memories, and I hold them even closer now that I live over 1,000 miles away from most of my family. Although the weekends were fun, I remember a definite downside. in music. That was probably 20 years (or thereabouts) ago, so getting tunes out of the house wasn’t as easy as it is now – hell, I cried.

Thanks to Play Music All Access these days they sing with me wherever I go. If we had the cookies today, you better believe a killer Bluetooth boombox would be an even better experience. While we’ve researched a lot of Bluetooth speakers over the last couple of years, we haven’t really spent much time. in the Bluetooth boombox category – the Logitech UE Boombox is probably the only speaker of choice we’ve looked at. At $250 though, it might be a tough cut for most people. So after hearing about the G-Boom at G-Project, seeing its rugged exterior and its $99 price tag, we had to see what it was all about. And in short, it’s amazing, damn the price.

Right out of the box, the G-Boom looks like something you can do physical damage with. It’s a sleek black unit with a rugged design, top handle for easy portability, hooks on both sides, soft silicone buttons, and massive airflow ports on the back. Just one look at this speaker and you know he means business.

Then you open it and all these ideas are accepted. But we will get the sound quality in a bit.

The front of the unit is basically a wall of speakers with three LED indicator lights below: power, charging/low battery, and Bluetooth connection indicator. Under the top handle, you’ll find a row of control buttons: power, Bluetooth, EQ (!), track control, and volume control. The buttons are very easy to press and *one button* is very satisfying. The top and bottom of the unit are covered in a soft silicone that not only gives it a nice feel, but also prevents the speaker from sliding all over the place as it moves away from your favorite tracks. On the downside, this silicone also attracts and holds dust like crazy. It’s kind of sad.

The parts are almost identical to each other: they are basically empty except for the small metal bar to carry the speaker and a shoulder strap (not included). The back of the unit is where you’ll find the two air flow holes and all the available ports: charging, full USB (for output only), AUX, and a bit of a reset pinhole if weird problems occur. As you probably already guessed, the USB port is for charging mobile devices, but get this – it only works when it’s in G-Boom.

G Project G Boom Review: Big Sound For A $100 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

As well as the G-Boom, corners have to be cut somewhere in a $99 speaker this good. In the case of the G-Boom, this cut was made in the battery. Under “normal” conditions – we mean average volume in a not too hot outside temperature – you will probably get six hours (at best) from the battery. Turn up the volume and/or heat, and that number will drop. Honestly, that’s the main fault I could find with this boombox – everything else about it is great.

Speaking of “pretty good,” let’s talk about EQ. I was very happy to see this feature on the G-Boom. Although it only has three settings – flat, rock and pop – it’s good to have some options on the table for the speaker itself. The EQ knob does all the work here; press it and the power LED will blink several times depending on the setting. For example, if it blinks once, it is in proper EQ, two blinks means it is in rock setting, and three indicates it is in pop. It’s simple, and each setting definitely has its effect on the sound output. I love you.

I also appreciate the fact that it has tracking navigation controls directly on the speaker. It’s a bug on many Bluetooth speakers, and I’ve never been able to figure out why. I want to be able to control the music in my device

If I were to rate the G-Boom on a scale of 1-10 in the sound quality department, it would easily be an 8, maybe even a 9. And when the price is factored in, it’s a 10. For $99, I can’t believe it how good does this boombox sound – it compares to speakers that cost twice, or even three times, the price. And it absolutely beats every other speaker in the same price range, no question about it.

The low end produced by the G-Boom is easy to name but not overwhelming. Although there are many more

, Mids and highs are always articulated and clear, giving a very balanced sound. And as I said before, the built-in EQ helps improve the music you listen to perfectly.

When it comes to volume, the G-Boom may not produce as much volume as something like the Braven 850/855s, but it still does.

High enough for most of the time. Here’s how G-Project rates G-Boom speakers for specific customers out there:

“Holy crap that looks good,” I don’t really know what they say about G-Boom. I’ve had this thing for a month and I’m still amazed that it’s only $99.

When it comes to choosing a Bluetooth speaker, the choices on the market are overwhelming. As a result, I am asked which one I recommend regularly, and the first question

Ask “how much do you want to spend?” because the price-to-sound quality ratio is important to consider. However, G-Boom just broke that mold. From here on out, it will be my first recommendation at the $99 (and maybe even $200+) price point as long as the size is not a concern, because this is definitely too big to just throw in a bag and go. business In this case, I still easily recommend the UE BOOM.

At first glance, the speaker reminded me a bit of an IED (improvised explosive device), with three LED lights on the front when turned on. However, thanks to the integrated carrying handle, more people might think it is a modern take a lunch box. Either way, the G-Boom, which has four drivers (two tweeters, two woofers) and dual bass ports on the back, weighs 5.7 pounds, and is perfect for both indoors and outdoors.

It seems to be very well made, with a rubber bottom – G-Project calls it a “protective elastomer base” – which helps keep the speaker from sliding around on rougher surfaces. On the unit,
