Death Star Bluetooth Speaker Levitating

Death Star Bluetooth Speaker Levitating – Born from today’s technological innovations and a geek’s desire, the dgpower Star Wars Death Star Floating Speaker took us as soon as John Williams’ Imperial March started playing. That and the fact that it floats in the air. Sure, floating speakers aren’t new, but this one fits a purpose. Instead of striking fear into the hearts of the Rebel Alliance, this fully operational battle station brings a sense of awe into our wacky hearts. That’s about as much as it can get for any Star Wars fan.

For starters, even the box that houses the speaker is nothing short of large. Just looking at the Star Wars logo makes our hearts soar. In addition, the front image of the Death Star, illuminated and floating in space, made us even more impatient to hold on to the unboxing.

Having previously seen hands-on photos of how the Death Star Speaker fits comfortably in one hand, we were surprised at how big the box was. Digging in, we found the basic equipment to get started with our very own floating Death Star. The spherical speaker itself is a sight to behold and comes with a micro-USB cable meant to connect the sphere to a power source. The speaker comes with a magnetic base with Galactic Empire insignia and an adapter to support the base. Two USB ports are also built into the base, so you can charge both the speaker and your smartphone from a single power source.

This Floating Orb Bluetooth Speaker Is Totally Space Age

Setup is generally a simple and straightforward affair. Press the power button on the back to turn the speaker off and pair instantly with any Bluetooth-enabled device. No passwords are required either, and all we did was point to a Bluetooth device listed as DS-809 (presumably DS stands for Death Star) and it was done.

Right next to the power button is the light switch that allows you to switch between a quiet, hidden death star or a glowing battle station. While the hollow laser plate that obliterated Alderaan in a heartbeat lights up, we think he could have put a little more thought into this, and top of that wish list would be removable plastic pieces to mimic the laser, complete with green lights.

With the lights on and the speaker paired, now it’s just a matter of placing the ball on top of the base and swinging it. This is really very difficult and it will take all your strength to get it right. We’ll be honest and admit it took a few tries to get this right. The trick is to set up the speaker and turn it on before you swing it. Because once you have it floating, you never want to mess with the speaker except to give it a slight nudge to rotate it.

That said, practice makes perfect when it comes to finding the right holding technique and sweet spot. With the former, locking the speaker with both hands and slowly lowering it to the base worked for us. To find the sweet spot, however, it takes a little patience and steady hands. But once you do, you’ll feel a slight lock rather than the ball being pushed or pulled to the base. If all else fails, turn off the base and try again after five minutes to reset the magnetic field.

What Are Levitating Speakers And Should You Buy Them?

Once we’ve done the trick, we have a floating Death Star, ready to be the envy of house parties. Watch the full video here.

Forget it, this floating battle station is a Bluetooth speaker. This means you can stream any music from your smartphone or tablet to it. Star Wars fans would be in a frenzy the moment they hear any Star Wars soundtrack playing through the Death Star speakers. Yes, that includes us. But on a more impartial note, the speaker performs very well indoors, able to fill a decent-sized HDB room with its sound. Bass and vocal clarity are very good given the petite nature of the speaker. The latter is particularly important because the speaker also works as a hands-free device for receiving calls. It’s safe to say that your voice comes through very clearly because we didn’t repeat ourselves during calls.

As for geek gaming, the dgpower Death Star Floating Speaker is both a great centerpiece and functional as a wireless boombox.

Seow Tein Hee struggles to clear an endless pile of games, mostly due to his lack of self-control when selling on Steam. He was also known to bargain (or extort) more Transformers and LEGO toys than his significant other.
