On the other hand, the lack of external ports means it’s easier for the Flare 2 to maintain its IPX7 waterproof rating. This means that you can submerge your device in a pool of up to one meter.

One thing you might notice is that the Soundcore Flare 2 is a little heavier than its counterpart. Although the difference is so minimal that it is unlikely to be a problem.

It is not surprising that the second edition retains the same values. The buttons are easy to use and are located on the top of the device, so they are easy to find.

Keep in mind that you’ll only get the 12 hours of battery life promised by the Anker Soundcore Flare 2 if you don’t use extra features, like lighting and bass boost. If you want a light show with your music and deeper tones, you can wait about 7 hours.
Also, as mentioned above, there doesn’t seem to be any aux-in port for your headphones, and you can’t connect an external device unless you’re using the supplied charging cable. As a Bluetooth device, however, the Flare 2 definitely gets the job done.

A downside is that there are no custom EQ options. You will need to stick with one of the presets that the Anker team has already designed.

It’s a bit of a shame that there’s no aux-in cable, and it’s worth noting that you don’t have full control over the EQ set-up, but there’s still a lot to like about this portable device. The Soundcore Flare 2 has a cylindrical shape with a flared bottom for better stability. Unlike the original Flare, the Flare 2 now comes with two LED light rings at the top and bottom. As for build quality, the Soundcore Flare 2 feels really well built and has an IPX7 waterproof rating. This means that if you accidentally drop the Flare 2 in the pool, it will be able to survive under a meter for up to 30 minutes. The base of the speaker has anti-slip rubber to prevent it from moving too easily.
The main controls are located on the top which is a button that controls power, volume, play/pause, and lighting effects. Jumping will require 2 to 3 taps of the middle button, but I found I needed to press the middle button 3 to 4 times instead.
Unlike the Liberty 2 Pro, the Soundcore app doesn’t let you remap or configure the controls. What the application can do is simply control lighting effects, play/pause, volume, and adjust the equalizer. The equalizer is not some gimmicky feature, it can really create significant changes in the way your music sounds.
Another feature that Soundcore Flare 2 has is called PartyCast, which allows you to connect the speaker to more than 100 speakers in a PartyCast group. PartyCast supports cross-product compatibility, which means your current Flare 2 can connect to any PartyCast speaker. You can also control the audio and lighting effects of all speakers in the PartyCast group.

The Soundcore Flare 2 is rated for 12 hours of playback on a full charge with no lights on. Charging is done by the Flare 2 via USB-C.
Anker didn’t advertise the microphone capabilities on the Soundcore Flare 2 with good reason. I believe the microphone is in the Soundcore logo. The microphone can’t really be used unless you’re talking next to the speaker. Even so, the voice reproduction seems far off.
Designed with a cylindrical shape, the Soundcore Flare 2 is capable of 360º sound so it is best placed in the middle of the room where your meeting is.
On its default EQ settings without Bass Boost on, the bass sounds tight though it lacks depth especially at the lower end of the spectrum. As for the midrange, vocals and instruments are clear and forward. Treble also comes across clean, and not too extended. When the Bass Boost is turned on, the sub-bass has more boom which allows the overall audio to sound fuller.
